have a question for you guys. first of all my knuckels need rebuilding should i rebuild the 87 FJ60 ones or rebuild the ones off a parts truck 88 62 that i have. i am looking for better milage and know that the 62 are 4:11 what would you guys do. i use the truck as a daily driver hunting fishing and camping .

60 and 62 knucles are the same .. so take those that keep better shape .. and I would love the 4.11 ( the 3rd have nothing to do with the knucles ) with a 33" set of your favorite tires ..
the 62 front axle housing should be trussed versus the 60 which is not. But that would require swapping the whole axle, which may no be worthwhile yet.

so i cant take the whole axle and just put it under the 60?
yes you can. But you'll need to keep your gears consistent. If you only swap the front axle, you'll need to put your 3.73 gears from the 60 axle in the 62 housing to match the rear, or, if you want to go to 4.11's, swap out the entire rear axle as well, or just swap the rear 3rds.

i was going to swap both axles. what are the ups and downs. you have the 4:11 in yours right? do you think ill get less miles per gallon. if the only difference is off road it wouldnt interest me much. can you give me the pros and cons

so what are the ups and downs?
well the up is added rigidity against bending of the axle housing, and the down....well, maybe a little less under axle clearance? Oh, and you'd have to swap the axles...
