I've searched, and haven't found a good answer yet. I also asked it in my build thread, but figured it would be more visible as its own thread, and more easily searcheable in the future this way.

Where have you, or can you tap into water temp for an aftermarket water temp gauge?

I don't see anything on the thermostat housing that's available, and there's a water temp sensor on the oil cooler--that is used for the glow system. But I'm not seeing any other obvious candidates for location.

If worse comes to worse I can probably mount it on the radiator inlet, but that won't read anything until the thermostat opens on the first drive of the day.

So: where would you mount a water temp sensor to a 12HT?

Glad to know I'm not the only one to have issues with finding a spot for these engines! ;)

I'll go with one in the radiator before I put it in the hose I think though, just to keep the hoses stock.

I might measure carefully and drill/tap the thermostat housing. Not much room underneath the various belt brackets on the 12HT, but if I can find it....

I did the same search and I scratch my head for a long time to find a good place to put an aftermarket water temperature sensor on my 12HT.

The glow sensor's hole is too small for a "standard" mech temperature probe and the probe make interference with the t-stat spring when using the hole in the thermostat housing.

I read someone drill and tap the thermostat housing but that afraid me ! (https://forum.ih8mud.com/showpost.php?p=8812527&postcount=43)

I figure that the only solution is to put it on an existing hose where the flow is coming out of the head. See the pics underneath.

I just have to make sure the rear radiator heater valve is always open to maintain the coolant flow. It should be accurate... but I did not know yet because the truck is in a restoration process and I did not start the engine since...

You can easily find these piping at your local hardware store. The pipe's thread patern is the same as the head thread patern..

Hey guys. Quick question. Need to replace the rad on the 60 with 12 HT. does anyone. Have the specs or model numbers or other suggestions. Much appreciated!

Why not just get your rad recored? Most rad shops will do it and can upgrade them to 4 cores.

Certainly an option. We are looking into that as well. Half the fins are gone with this one. Thanks for the feedback ;)

Friend had his 2H one recored for $350ish when he did his 12HT swap. Think he said it was $75 more for a 4 core?

300$ (w/tax) over here for a 2H recored radiator with 4 cores !

Hey guys. I mounted my temp sensor here on my 12HT (swapped in a 40).

I’m getting idling temps of 185-190F and driving temps (flat ground, 2000-2,500rpm) of almost 210F.

Do you think it’s the sensor location? Thoughts?
