Hi guys,
i read somewhere here about Fixing the sensitive accel pedal on a HJ61. but now i cant find it. mine is UBER sensitive and it drives me insane when off road, my passengers are under the evident belief that im doing it on purpose.... :)

can anyone point me in the right direction or can anyone offer the fix here???

shot alot Guy's!

Make sure there are two springs off the lever on the injection pump. You will see where they attach. Sometimes only one is there. Perhaps you have none right now.

A small shock behind the fuel pedal. I've never done this, and I don't recall anyone doing this on Mud yet.

hth's.

as far as i could/can see, there are two springs... i remember that in the other thread, but not sure if im looking in the correct place on in the engine bay??

Yes, 2 springs, but soft enough to still jerk your car like riding horse.:p
I added another spring to it, this will help out alot.

ok, so these spring ARE the problem? nothing else can cause this?? maybe have two new springs made up? and they must he harder you say??

I have the same issue in my HJ61. I have tried three springs and harder springs all to no avail. So when I wheel now i set hand throttle to about 1100rpm and this is my 'cruise' speed if i need more rpm i stamp the gas. If you do find a good fix let me know. Cheers.

1HDT is the same case here! Sensitive sensitive. Have to ask the Toyota why is on with throttle sensitivity?:D

Been having this issue myself, but putting extra springs only partly cures the problem imop, what I´d like to do is to find or make a eccentric throttle wheel, to get finer throttle movement at the beginning of the pedal throw.
It´s a real shame having such a good motor at low rpm and not being able to use it properly...

Anyone know any car models that come with eccentric throttle wheels?

I have a 2H which also had a very twitchy throttle. I solved the problem by fitting a throttle damper to the side of the injection pump using a simple bracket I fabricated. The throttle damper is a part I raided off a Mazda 323. Works like a charm and has been reliable for 4 years so far. No extra springs required.

so that acts almost like a shock absorber? my concern is its twitchy both ways.. if you hit the pedal too hard it jerks and if you let it off too fast it jerks.. it has been covered in many a thread before that this is a common problem with the DI manual toyota diesels but there must be a way to make it more bare-able off road with out always resorting to the hand throttle.

thanks for the inout, i will definately look into it

The jerkiness takes some getting used to, but another problem I have is that the pedal is too soft, making me cramp in my right leg, I have to carry the weight of my foot all the time. In my HJ45 the spring in the pedal equals the weight of my foot.
Any solution for that?

Springs that are 25 years old are bound to be weak, the 1st thing I would is replace them or just add more.
I found the best way with a jerky 12HT ,is to use the hand throttle over bad ground
