Not really tech but probably better luck here on possible trade of 24v 3B parts for 12v 3B parts OR 12v fuel control relay and timer module for 24v equivalent.
I picked up my 3B today and it's a 24v engine so I either need to trade off the 24v parts or the 12v parts that I've been accumulating (my 12v parts will work on my '82 BJ60 if necessary).
I'll be in Vancouver and Calgary in early February so maybe Wayne or the folks at G&S will chime in. If trades aren't what folks are willing to do I'll buy if needed and sell the stuff I've got.
If I go 24v I'll need a 24v dash cluster as well I assume.
Does anyone know if the 24v bulbs have the same base as 12v bulbs for the outside (tail, signal and clearance) lights?
I also need a LeBaron or Volvo turbo for the 3B as well if anyone knows of one.

cefinately stop by and we will go for pizza et the best pizza joint this sid eof the rockies...
or if you are here for a weekend we can do some wheeling...
either way you can pick through the parts shop...

IMOP stay 12 volt. Good to have spares for both vehicles.

Also changing of all relays......bulbs/cluster is a big job.

If you can swap to 12v or trade in. Sounds like a plan. Is this for the 45LV?

I see you posted the build up on Pirate. Too bad you can't also take the time to post those tech write ups on here. They are pretty good info. I like the 55 build up too.

Cheers

Wayne, I'll be in Calgary on Feb. 6 & 7. PM me your contact info.
Lowenbrau, I've PM'd you what I've got and consequently what I'd need. Whether I go 12v or 24v will depend heavily on whether I can get the 12v stuff on this trip.
Brownbear, on the LV changing relays etc. really is irrelevant since it's totally gutted and the wiring harness was a mess anyways. It's getting rewired completely. I'd like to post up here but my income here in Guatemala means I've got to be selective and a guy on Pirate bought me a star for the next year so that's where the post up goes!

You can always link your threads. Make a post here on a diesel conversion.....just link the pictures. Have them hosted there. Or just to show members here the build up. Even if they have to go to pirate to do so.

Why not make what's already there as good as possible, use it and then make changes if necessary as they make themselves apparent ? Seems a shame to be doing a lot of work on wiring and parts before it becomes needed.

12v

maybe a hassle up front, but long term you'll save headaches. the only thing I see as a clear advantage to 24 is the starter. Ok, a 24 winch is cool too.... but only if you find one at a reasonable price.

I have a 24v starter on my rig and it's currently a pain. Maybe that's because I live in a tropical country where it serves no particular advantage other than a one click start which can also be done by 12v starters though with a touch more cranking. More likely it's because I have trouble finding parts when it's replacement time. 24v in a 12v world is a pain.

Keep in mind that cruiser_guy is in the guatemala highlands and it gets pretty cool there... not quite freezing or anything, but cool. The extra ooomph might come in handy.

I've certainly grown to miss the starter-crawl on my 60... seems that starting in gear w/ diesel just doesn't work.

In 24V it does :D

The wiring is a disaster. Making it as "good as possible" is more work than just ditching the whole thing! Trust me, 40 years at the mercy of Guatemalan mechanics is NOT a good thing for a vehicle!

On the 24v vs. 12v starter thing I've NEVER felt that the 12v starter on the BJ60 was a problem even in Prince George, B.C. or Edmonton, Alberta in the dead of winter when it's been -30C at night! The Guatemalan highlands might get cool, even freezing ocasionally, but they certainly DON'T get to -30!! I probably have the only block heater in Guatemala right now in my truck!!
