I just put a 12 inch Derale fan on my Cruiser. Hooked it up and wired it and noticed it was set up as a "puller" so I switched the wires and it became a "pusher" but I could not feel near as much air movement. So I looked on the Derale website to find theat........."All Derale fans are set up at the factory as "Pullers", to switch to a "Pusher" you must switch the wires AND remove the fan blade from the shaft, reverse the blade, and re-install it."

Damnit.....now I have to take it back off and do it right.

I've seen that on several fans. In order to properly set them up from puller to pusher, you have to not only switch wires but also switch the fan blades around.

I caught that on the one I installed here recently...

That makes total sense as aerodynamically that fan is designed to turn one direction. If you reverse the motor direction, the fan is not turning the direction it was designed to turn and isn't moving the air effeciently. It's not like the simple blades on a ceiling fan that you just reverse and they work "coming or going".

I had to double check mine earlier when I remounted it. The original mounting ties I put on 3 nights ago werent holding it securely. It's spinning the way arrow on the blade points so I guess that is correct.

Anyone else with a Torqflo can tell me which color wire youre using for ground/power?

Quite the pain having to pull the top radiator piece and undo the tranny cooler bolts to be able to tilt the condensor forward.

well i did not feel any real airflow when I reversed the wires......it blew a ton the other way.......so I checked their website and it and the instructions I did not read stated that you must reverse the fan also.

as you most likely guessed at this point..... best to connect up fan first to verify which way the air flow is. There are dedicated "pusher" fans and "puller" fans.... SPAL makes some very nice electric fans...they are designed to either push air or pull air... On average most fans pull air through the radiator.

Along this same topic....GM has a dedicated pusher type fan they used on 3/4 and 1 ton trucks....starting somewhere around 92. FYI

And as a number of folks have noted here on the 80 forum, there are a number of different makes and models of cars with OEM pusher fans...which are mainly used to make the A/C work better, but obviously help with cooling.
