When I installed the cat back on my truck 11 months ago I had a small fitment issue with the front hanger at the rear of the last cat. I decided to make (bend it) it fit and didn't see any problems. While under the truck last weekend repairing a leaking speedo sensor I noticed that the front hanger I made work was now broken. I called Borla this morning and they said as long as I could produce the original sales receipt they would honor the million mile warrenty and send me out a new front muffler section because of the hanger failure. WOW, if I only had that damn receipt  . Thought about it a little and remembered mentioning it about a year ago on here so tried the search function on Borla, 6 moths or older. I got a page and a half of replys and the second to last had the company I bought it from on there and they e-mailed me a copy of my receipt. The new exhaust needs to be made up as they build to order and should arrive in a couple of weeks.

 to Borla
and
  to the new search engine

Cool dude. Glad to see the search comes in handy for those that use it. Over all, you happy with the Borla sound?

Sweet !!!

Now could someone else with a borla system , feign a system wide catastophic failure .. get a new one shipped , and redirect it to me ?? Pweeese ?

Seriously , well done Rick ... any ideas on fabbing a new hangar ? Will you do it any differently this time ; just curious .

I'm waiting to see if the new muffler section has the hanger in the right place. If not I'll contact Borla as it is supposed to fit factory mounts. Initially I didn't have the time to deal with it as I needed the muffler fixed immediately, but now I've got some time to make sure it fits properly.

And they want the old one back, or I have to pay for it. Just a little smarter than SuperLift ;)

Sorry Junk, missed that back half. I like the sound. It's a little louder but not too intrusive. I've never been an exhaust tone person as some are. I bought it for the warrentee and the ease of installation. The cost isn't that bad either at around $389.00.

Hope it all works out well for you .

Superlift ; yeah ;) ;) . What I need to do with these guys is find the factory , and camp out ... slip into my ninja outfit , and grab some returned gear out of the dumpster ..

What timing, I drove by the superwinch factory yesturday down in Putnam CT. that exact thought ran through my head. I stopped in and had a nice chat with one of the managers. Couldn't get a deal from him. He did know the cheapest place on the web to get them from and mentioned that I could save freight charges by paying the dealer and then picking it up at the factory.

Nice guy.

Something tells me that within any large center is a ragged group of individuals filtering thru bin after bin of 'stuff' . Whether they be hackers looking for gear or intel , or guys collecting aluminum ... and they must be a bunch of guys higher up the food chain involved in what approximates theft ... Hmmm , does pilfering the contents of a garbage bin within the private confines of a business constitute theft ? Lots of good stuff to be had .. if we only looked ;)

PS : Whats that Carlin says ? We can always use more stuff !!

PSS : In regards to the ninja outfits ... might be a niche market waiting to be exploited , eh ?? ;p

Sounds like something I would say, then you would say buy OEM :D

Well I TRIED to install the new muffler section. Both hangers were so far out of position that I had to aggressively reshape them. After this and realizing I'd need to repair one of the hangers I couldn't install the O2 sensor because the flange was welded on the inside of the hole and the sensor would now not fit.

Calling Tuesday to see what they say. At this point I might just get someone to weld on a new hanger on the old muffler and call it a day. I don't have free days to muck around with another bad muffler.

I thought of you when I was under my truck last week re-shaping one of the hangers on my new Borla. :censor:

It was about 1.5 inches off and was causing the tailpipe to rattle against the heat shield. All fixed now, but I'll be on the lookout in case it breaks like yours did.

EXACTLY!! my problem is with the front hanger near the cats. Now that it's broken off the system supports itself and that pipe over the crossmember is dead nuts in the middle of the opening.

I'm definately making my own hanger and having it welded on. If I push for another muffler assembly I'm sure it will come in bad. I originally thought my first one was just a mistake, but since the second one was the same and you're having the same difficulties I see no reason to torture myself any longer. Principle or not, I just don't have the time or the patience to deal with these guys any longer.

I am planning on calling them to let them know that their jig is setup poorly and if they want their muffler assembly back it's going to be on their dime.

I hate to say it, but this has been a common problem with Borla for years. This is the reason that you never see them on BMW's, they would never fit without major work. $500 for an exhaust and then you have to spend another $100-200 to get it to work.

Well called them today. I basically told them that I expected another muffler assembly to be as poorly made as this one so they can take the replacement back and I'll deal with repairing the original. Gabriel asked me to get a quote for the work and they would pay for it. Nice enough guys but they are claiming that I'm the first to complain about fitment issues with the 95~97 LCs. The thing that kills me is that all the hard part is done correctly. It's just that they got the hanger jig setup wrong and it throws off the entire system as it passes through the truck. He said that with the decline in sales of that setup it would be discontinued shortly. No s*** Sherlock, you need to address the fitment issue if you want sales. I'm still glad I bought the system even with the additional engineering I'll need to do with the front hanger. I might be over simplifying this but how hard can it be to purchase a new factory exhaust system and then duplicate the routing and mounting.
