100 Snorkel - Why must power antenna be removed?

Slee's site says to install the ARB snorkel the automatic antenna must be removed.

What exactly interfers, and can the snorkel be modified to allow the automatic antenna to still be used? I rarely use my radio so the thought of an antenna sticking up all the time is not so nice to me.
 
I'm assuming it's due to the size and location of the auto antenna motor.
 
That is correct, the interference is with the motor, not the mast or the actual fender like on the 80 Series.

Replace it with a manual antenna and call it a day, there should be multiple models that fit. If you're ambitious, find out the part # for the non-US manual antenna for the 100 Series and then order from CruiserDan.

Going swimming? :D Yep...the motor interferes with the snorkel air tube.

You got all your breathers extended correct? Front & rear diffs, t-case, tranny?
 
Or maybe he does desert convoys and is worried about dust! :)


I've heard that rationale before however I haven't seen any documentation/proof that the dust at the top of the windshield is significantly lower than at the fender/stock air inlet. I have a hard time believing the particulate level is significantly lower 20-30" higher than with stock when utilizing a snorkel.

For the record....ever since we started having serious rain in the spring i've just been waiting for the day i take on a gallon of water into my K&N...so i want to swap out and go with a snorkel instead. Dont plan on driving through rivers all the time so extending the breathers isnt priority, just protecting the motor from water.

FWIW I did the test when I had my 80...One with and one without. At the end of the day the tuna can was a 1/3 of the way full and hardly anything in the can on the 80 with the snorkel. :popcorn:

Wow! Good to hear it really does work...I had my doubts ;).
 
well, see i have the K&N intake, so i was going to cut off the cone filter part, put the stock panel filter airbox back in and put a tube connecting the two. Keep the performance of a straight intake tube but be able to suck air from the snorkel.


Does anyone have a shop closer to NY other then Iron Pig offroad that specializes in Cruisers that i could bring to have some stuff done(ARB bumper/snorkel)

I was kind of joking, but not really. In my old 80, doing lots of driving with other vehicles in the Mojave, there was a definite difference before/after the snorkel in terms of air filter contamination, and the pre-cleaner bowl filled up much quicker before the snorkel. The other solution is just to drive further apart if you can.

Dust has to disperse when it is kicked upward. It will always be more dense closer to the point of origin (i.e. the ground). "Significant" is a relative term, but there is definitely a difference in those 30 inches.

Another advantage is the the air up there is cooler, which is always a good thing for an engine.
 
cant you also turn the intake on the snorkel backwards (facing the rear of the vehicle), i think this would make a major difference in the intake of dust.
