is there somewhere where you can get a flexible antenna that's fixed to stay up the whole time? kinda like the older model tacoma

I've got a 100 Series manual antenna I installed instead. Same function as the original power one, except instead of 12v to power it, your hand does.

On the left, power - on the right, manual

IIRC, Val678 has both a snorkel and a power antenna somehow.
for toyota's OEM manual antenna, see this post

One could go totally poser and not hook up the ducting inside the fender. You could keep the power antenna that way.

did you pick this up from a toyota dealership?

Put the fixed antenna inside the snorkel and cap the old hole in the fender. The antenna performance will not suffer for being inside an ABS tube.

Actually the hard snorkel ducting part interfers, you'd have to cut it off. To just not connect it wouldn't solve anything since it's just a silicone tube.

Yes, a Toyota dealership in Kuwait ;)

can I get the part number? haha

The 100 series stock air intake hardly sucks any dust at all. I did a week offroad in southern and central Oregon this summer and we were making mile long clouds of dust all day. Everything was covered with dust, there was a huge amount of dust on all my stuff inside my M416 that got past the weatherstripping. We had to brush off the M416 and the 100's rear hatch before opening it each time because there was so much dust piled up at the edges.

I pulled my air filter near the end of that trip and it was barely dirty and the downstream side was pristine.

So a snorkel on a 100 series with a factory intake is not necessary for dust avoidance.

You're right, it doesnt suck up much...usually, however in my two day weekend adventure in nevada my intake filter got screwed! I was following Sincity100 and leading some, at high speeds in some really fine sand areas, it was really bad. Also, what I noticed is that the with the snorkel, since the intake isnt trying to suck air past the fender liner, it has much better top end power. Its not being choked for air.

I believe it. Also the intake are is cooler through the snorkel.

I did remember however the dealership only had one in stock (in all of the M.E.) and they did not know when they were getting one. I waited two months before I said just gimmi mine. I was trying to get in several so anyone that needed one could just get it from me.

Antenna:
You can get various kinds of hidden antennas (some amplified) to replace the powered one. I got this: Metra - Amplified AM/FM Radio Antenna Adapter - Black - 44-UA205 and put it in the roof liner just above the front map lights. You can tap 12v from the lights too.

Snorkel:
I found that the joint between the OEM airbox on the 100 and the L shaped tube that goes into the fender is not water tight. Its sealed by some kind of sponge material. If you're in water till that level, the airbox will suck in water despite having the snorkel, unless you seal it in some way. Guess how I found out!
