Hey. Just bought a 2000 LX 470. I know, I know too many bells and whistles, but I got a great deal on it. However, I think it may be missing a skid plate under the transmission. Anybody have a pic of the underside of their vehicle. I don't know if the Cruisers use different plates. I have a plate up front, one under the engine and a small one under the transfer case. There appear to be mounting points on the back of the engine skid plate for a companion transfer case plate. Any thoughts? Thanks.

I meant to say that there appear to be mounting points on the back of the engine skid plate for a companion TRANSMISSION skid plate. Sorry.

I'd assume the cruiser/lexus use the same skid plates. Here is a pic of the skid plate that covers from where the front metal one stops back a few feet. "Skid plate"...really just plastic. This is off an 99 cruiser.

The 100-series TLC has an "engine undercover" that keeps mud and rocks from bouncing up into the engine compartment from the bottom of the truck. It's made of fiberglass-reinforced cardboard or something and has six mounting points (IIRC) on the bottom of the frame, which look like they should hold something much more substantial.
These things apparently have a realistic life span of about 4 years, before they start to get brittle and torn up, and lots of mechanics just leave them off. They're not cheap, about $150 or so, again IIRC.

That may be what you're seeing under your Lex. I saw the empty mounting points under my used TLC and the dealership ordered a new undercover and put it on as part of the sale.

Hey, thanks. You guys are great. Matt, isthe top of your picture the back of skid plate? I think it is. If so, are there a clip-nut about 1/3 in from each side of the plate? What do those attach to? I have those on my Lex, but there is nothing attached to them. That's what got me thinking that another shield attached to cover the tranmission. Thanks again.

The pic shows the side of the plate that faces the pavement when properly installed. As for some clips, the arrows point to where I saw some, but nothing I know of connects to them. My family has been the only owner of the cruiser, and I don't remember anything falling off. Come to think of it I need to reinstall that plate...its still sitting in the back of my cruiser.

Matt: Thanks for all the help. This is quite a mystery. ??? I don't think it is like Toyota to install parts that have no purpose. I wonder what is supposed to attach to those two clip-nuts? Maybe their is an additional shield that covers the transmission. Maybe there is a bracket to stiffen the rear of the shield that's in the picture.

Any one else have any idea what those two clip-nuts are for?

I think putting a skid plate on a 100 is kind of funny. It's not like anyone is going to wheel one of those.

Mine is muddy! :flipoff2: If ya look close nuff you can see I ripped it allready on a rock. Of course its due to crappy driving...not terrain I'd consider cruiser worthy. :slap:

I'm just waiting to see some of these on the trails. It's taking too long. By the time a cruiser is 4 years old, it needs to beat on, otherwise it's just another suv.

what kind of ground is that?

That 100 is stuck AND has a big nylon tape worm coming off the back...

Junk, that is the air down point I think. ;)

The two clip nuts that Matt points to with the green arrows in the above photograph. They are on the rear of the engine sheild. I have them on mine, but there is nothing attached to them. I just want to know what they're for.
