Hey 100 series owners,

Dedicated 80 series owner looking to add another to the stable.

I found a 06/07 rig with roughly 100k miles, it's been maintained. However I will want to do the usual pm maintenance.

No accidents, pretty clean CA rig with little wear and tear. However mostly mint, has ACH and most of the maintenance has been done by independents within the 20k miles.

Seller is asking 30K, I was more in the 25K range... any thoughts on pricing on these currently? More importantly what does a full tune up w/ time belt & water pump run on these at the dealer?

Worst case what does the dreaded AHC overhaul cost?

Thank you.

What are comparable vehicles going for in the area? 30K doesnt seem bad for a late model 100 series, especially a CA one with no rust.

I recently got an alignment for my 100 at the local Toyota dealer and I asked them to quote full timing belt service and that came back at $910 which I don't think is bad at all.

They will probably get that $30k or upper 20s.

Maybe I’m being to aggressive on price. That’s why I’m here asking the experts.
Timing belt and regular maintenance has been done but not by a dealer. The ach has not been touched and fluid looks low.

I’m guessing to do a timing belt/ full tune up, tranny flush, diff change, ach service, all hoses, and a new rad. I’d be about 3-5k at the dealer. Am I wrong on price?

If you take it to a dealership for all that work, be aware that they may tell you it’s a broken POS and try to convince you to trade it in on a newer 4runner or Sequoia. But I think $3500 is a good ballpark reality for everything you stated.

Ohhh yes I understand. I was in the middle of my million dollar 80 series build when my local deal offered me 10k over msrp for my 20 tundra. Ordered a new truck but 6 months later no update… so now I’m looking for a 100 series. Even when I get the 80 back it’s not convent to air down just to pull in and out of the garage.

depending on what “pretty clean” means to you, I think that’s $30k all day in this market. There aren’t many to be found around 100k, and 06/07 has the engine upgrade. If truly clean or cleaned up, that would be $40k+ on BAT.

Seems fair but try never to get anchored on asking price when you buy anything. I learned this late in life and I wish I would known earlier. Happens everyday.

You are looking at limited production vehicle that has suddenly gotten a lot of attention from the massive general buying public. 100s use to be a secret and the secret is out in a big way.

Anchoring bias is a cognitive bias that causes us to rely too heavily on the first piece of information we are given about a topic. When we are setting plans or making estimates about something, we interpret newer information from the reference point of our anchor, instead of seeing it objectively.

Anchoring is a concept I associate more with sellers. But good point.

Decide what you are willing/ able to pay and think is fair, go with it and stick to it.

Simple truth is a thing is worth what the seller will take and one(!) buyer will pay at that point in time. Captain Obvious, I know, but I’ve seen people on both sides frustrated by not accepting this fact. Houses, cars, and baseball cards. Doesn’t matter what a book says or what your buddy got for theirs. It only matters what the people involved will do.

Something is worth what someone will pay you for it right now.

Anchoring happens all the time to buyers and sellers. Once u know about it, negotiations get fun. 😁

Peeps try to buy my 100 all the and i just throw out ridiculously high numbers and they go away.

Just wait a couple of weeks when no body can afford gas any more and you can pick it up for a quarter of that price.

Don't forget Toyota likes to not quote for tensioner and pulleys as well. I had them to my t-belt and a year later had a squealing timing idler. Make sure you throw all the other parts and pieces in with your request. Will end up being more like $1200-1300

I asked. It included everything.

Given that these were a limited production run, where are these flippers and shady-ass dealers getting their inventory? Any bargain-priced 100-series are sold within a few hours and I just wouldn't think there would be enough of them out there to enable all the flips I see out there.

Also, I really REALLY wanted a 100-series when I got mine. Lucky to buy before the craziness. But as bad as I wanted one, I just wouldn't buy one now. You are competing with too many people with more money than brains. If you want to fit in in your garage without airing down the tires get a Rav4.

Are there still any other secrets out there for us to hoard a couple other trucks? :steer: The Hundy secret was out partially thanks to our MUD. The GX460/470 was out too since a couple years ago. Sequoia is kinda ugly. 😂

Pulled the trigger at 29K, KBB is 27K, and CarMax trade in is 22k.
If they follow through with the deal (Wife doesn't want to sell), I think I'm over paying a little.
But in this market I'm sure some crazy person would pay way more.

There are no secrets anymore. Just dumb luck.

good for you. KBB and carmax haven’t adjusted to the market and probably won’t. the wife’s reluctance to sell is evidence of the value.
