Hey 100 series owners,

Dedicated 80 series owner looking to add another to the stable.

I found a 06/07 rig with roughly 100k miles, it's been maintained. However I will want to do the usual pm maintenance.

No accidents, pretty clean CA rig with little wear and tear. However mostly mint, has ACH and most of the maintenance has been done by independents within the 20k miles.

Seller is asking 30K, I was more in the 25K range... any thoughts on pricing on these currently? More importantly what does a full tune up w/ time belt & water pump run on these at the dealer?

Worst case what does the dreaded AHC overhaul cost?

Thank you.

Nice buy! Sounds like a very clean car.

ACH is something your employer needs to deposit your paychecks directly to your bank.

AHC is a nifty suspension nobody needs to "dread" unless the entire vehicle is very rusty. I think you're in the clear. Lots of great info around here to make it straightforward and affordable.

Pulled the trigger at 29K, KBB is 27K, and CarMax trade in is 22k.
If they follow through with the deal (Wife doesn't want to sell), I think I'm over paying a little.
But in this market I'm sure some crazy person would pay way more.

Congrats! 06/07 Cali rust-free low mileage for $29k is a great bargain. You can sell it right away at BaT or Cars & Bids for way more 😍 Esp if you invest in some "overlanding gears".

Well pretty disappointed. I went today to go view the cruiser in person.

Here is what I found on what I expected to be a mostly mint cruiser.

*Large scuff marks/body damage on the bumpers and driver fender.
*Multiple parking lot scratches/scuffs/boo boos.
*Rear plate glued and siliconed to the rear tailgate?
*Hole Kicked in passenger door panel.
*Holes in side of center console, with DYI stereo wiring coming out.
*Low/dirty oil w/ no signs of recent service.
*AHC riding dirty and not functioning correctly.
*Leaking CV's
*Build up of corrosion/rust on the rear diff and frame areas around the AHC globes.
*In need of a lengthy interior detail.

The cruiser is salvageable and deserves to be brought back to life. However with paint work, a huge service bill and over night parts from Japan.

I just couldn't see paying 29K, I offered my original 25k citing that I believe it would take 5-6k minimum to recondition the vehicle.

My offer was declined, so back to the hunt we go.

F**k no! That’s nuts! What’s crazy is someone who doesn’t know any better will pay their asking price! Ugh! Seriously, it’s worth holding out to find one owned by an individual for a length of time. Sounds like you aren’t scared to pay a premium so you should be able find one.

If you take it to a dealership for all that work, be aware that they may tell you it’s a broken POS and try to convince you to trade it in on a newer 4runner or Sequoia. But I think $3500 is a good ballpark reality for everything you stated.
Not all the time. My friend went to dealer for AC not cold problem. He walked out with an estimate for over $20k to fix everything including AHC. They didn't try to sell him any new vehicle.

Where is this LC located and what color? I'm thinking of looking at one that will need the timing belt, but I could save myself a trip. Also, do you know what year Toyota stopped using the rear diff lock? Lastly, what was the cost of the timing belt water pump replacement that you found out?
Thanks in advance--Dan

Sent you a DM back. That truck I looked at easily needs 6k worth of work. A timing belt is let's say $1,200. But that truck also needs CV's replaced or rebooted, AHC system completely overhauled or ripped out. 1/2 the car needs paint or body work, etc. Holes in the center console and door panels.

It's 10 years of deferred maintenance.

Us rear diff lock was only 98-99 on 100 series.

Thanks. The owner was being a little cagey. Wouldn't send me pictures, only face-time but glossed over the areas that I asked about. Thanks for saving me the trip. I have an 80 which I love, but I need something for the freeway and less for the off-road.

That truck, if it was 'cherry', would be priced in the $40s given the market.

Very few 2006-2007 units made it to the US & even fewer that are stock still exist.

Not a conspiracy folks.

If you can afford it, and know what a 100-series is, means you're a saavy enthusiast vs an idiot even with crazy gas prices.

Unclear why so much hate for market dynamics that benefit 100-series owners btw ... who doesn't want a truck that appreciates in value??
