This is funny. I guess it depends on one's definition of functional.

I remember someone poking fun at a horrific lowrider Landcruiser on this forum earlier in the year.

But don't laugh too hard. That tricked out rig with the 22 inch chrome wheels, the neon lights, the purple fade paint job, and the faux leopard interior may be a dud on the trails... but if you're a pimp with an LX-load of hoochies, I guess that's pretty "functional."

Ok, fine then. Enough negativity. The world is full of it and aggression, especially in New York.

The truck looks great despite the wrap. Not my cup of tea, but I respect the build.

Consider these two scenarios:

(1.) A person who makes cosmetic modifications to his vehicle to attract attention, promote his business, and earn a living -- so he can put a roof over his family's heads and food in their mouths.

(2.) The sport off-roader who spends most of his hard-earned money on functional modifications to his truck so he can drive around in the rocks for fun on weekends.

Of these two, who really has the more "functional" vehicle?

Personally, I admire all the hard work you off-roaders put into your vehicles. It's great reading about your buildups and your adventures off-road. Some of your rigs are really, really cool -- and I am frankly amazed at some of the inspiration and ingenuity I have seen posted on this forum.

But, seriously, get over yourselves and give the guy a break. Dwon is using his vehicle to earn a living. Except for the blokes in OZ who actually have to 4-wheel to the nearest grocery store, you guys roll your trucks up and down hills basically just to amuse yourselves. When it comes down to "function," there's a whole lot more real-life utility in driving your kids to soccer and the mall, than in driving around aimlessly in the dirt in your free time.

Think about it. :)

Hey macneill, I see the newbies are gathering together in numbers! ;)

I (and I beleive the original poster) only meant that I support any man who supports his family, and :beer: :beer: to the man who is using his Cruiser to accomplish it.

I meant nothing pejorative towards any one using their Cruiser to enjoy nature, rock crawl, cross mud flats just it see if they can, expedition use, or just get their family safefly through inclement weather.

I don't mind a little ribbing about my Cruiser ignornace I can only hope to learn more about it from the lifers here! On all other matters, I always hope to keep it civil and fun.

Dwon I would just like to say that i think your LC looks great! Although your choice of colors for your ad wrap may not please everyone it accomplishes it's job well. Kudos to you for doing all the work yourself. I don't know if you have considered it but you should try a photoshop of what your rig would look like with a color matching ARB bumper.
 
I don't know if anyone is still reading this post, but I've got a pretty big problem.

I've got a bad leak in the tail of my rig somewhere. Yesterday was the first big rain since I completed my installs and I found the carpet from the R tailgate to the L tailgate molding soaked, as in touch it and it swells with water. The soaking went about half way up the carpet to the passenger seat (not 3rd row, but 2nd row).

I pulled back the moldings around the tailgate and couldn't find anywhere the water could possible come from. Plus there's a big hole in the floor where the frame mounts on that should have held about 2 cups of water before it touched carpet.

I read a post about leaks caused by roof rack bolts touching the sunroof drain pipe. Or bad seals around the RR bolts.

Does anyone have any diagrams of the skeleton of the LC?

Any ideas?

I get moisture there too after rain, carwash etc. I have never figured out either.
Maybe a new post is in order, because this is definitely tech.

I've gotten that before, too. Usually it's either:

a) the tailgate wasn't closed all the way (it can look closed w/out being fully closed)

b) there was debris (twigs, leaves, etc) at the top of the inner tailgate around the rubber seal

It wasn't either of those.

I'm not sure exactly what it is, but I've found at least one reason it could have happened.

I was loading up my rig for a photographers convention I was speaking at this weekend while it was raining. I opened the top tailgate and backed down my drive which is on a slope with a moderate grade, so I could see where the tailgate would shelter us under the overhang of the garage. When I went back and opened the lower tailgate that's when I noticed all the water. I assumed that it had leaked in over night since I couldn't see any way it could have come in over the rubber gaskets all around the back entry way.

Today I parked on the same slope and got out the garden hose. I ran it for about 20 minutes down the gutter rail where I just installed the Roof Rack a few weeks ago thinking that water had gotten down into the frame and ran back. Nothing!!! All the water ran down the back where it was supposed to on the outside of the gutter. I removed all the carpet and plastic parts from the floor waiting for some leaking to occur but it never happened.

So... Leaving the tailgate up, I went around to the hose and positioned it so it would run down the center of the car, like a heavy rain would do. By the time I got back to the tailgate, the entire back end of my car was flooded right where the original wet spot was. I guess the gaskets around the top of the entryway of the tailgate aren't meant to hold off all the roof water when the tailgate is open and it will WILL overflow like a waterfall.

I'm not giving up on other possible causes if anyone still has any ideas.
