wow, it's dead in here we need some SERIOUS tech to get us going again....

hey I got one!!

my power steering fluid level is low. is there any difference in lucas or, fill in the blank, verses Dexron other than getting it from the dealer verse autozone? as long as it's a 10w oil isn't it fine? I know Dexron has some additives for pump longevity but we are talking about a truck with 200k on it.

Put Lucas p/s fluid in it.

Not the thick leak stuff but the additive/fluid.

2nd steering rack in the last month, it's leaking somewhere and I am having to refill the PS fluid every 3-4 days depending on commute. There is NO fluid on the underside, nor on the ground. It's like it's simply evaporating. I talked with the service advisor and said the new rack was probably absorbing the fluid (i.e- filling the tie rod boots, bearing cages, etc). It's been holding steady for the past 24 hours, but I fear that it's still going to leak. This is the 2nd rack the dealership has installed, the first one was spraying fluid left and right as well as making a funny groan. I am under the 12 month labor/parts warrantee period so I'm happy about that. If I had taken the 1st rack to a independent shop I would have paid for the parts twice, and labor twice, not to mention this possible future 3rd time...

What do you guys think?

Also, keep your eyes posted gentlemen. I am in the need of the following 100 Series parts...not really excited, but s*** happens.

Driver side front fender
Driver Side front door
driver side rear quarter panel
Driver side front blinker lamp

Passenger side front fender
Passenger side front door
Passenger side quarter panel
Passenger outer tail light

If you have these parts and don't need them let me know!

Best,

Nick

^ nice...looks like they upgraded too and went with silver

I don't know anything about the steering rack but that is a lot of body panels you need. What's going on there? I didn't see any pictures by you on the regular 100 forum to indicate a wreck or recent trail damage??

I haven't had any accidents in the 100. I have been wheeling it ruthlessly for the past 6 years and it's really started to show it's age in terms of wheeling. I wouldn't mind replacing a few of the panels, I don't expect perfect, but it's getting quite bad now. When I pick up people they ask how many accidents I've been in, I then have to explain I drag the sides of my truck on rocks and trees. I get some strange looks after they spot the wood trim and full leather. It's been a rough year for the driver side of my rig . I did manage to flop the truck on the passenger side last year. Got most of the dents out, however the ripples are still there. I'm not purposely trying to dent up my truck, but I just get this overwhelming thrill when I show people that you can wheel in total comfort, and that rag top Jeep on 35's and can barely go up a mountain pass isn't really necessary.

Cvs are leaking again. With 200k should I just reboot or is replacing axles smarter for a high mile DD? While at oit check bearings, grease it all etc? Also have a tie rod end that's shot

I did the toyota rebuild kit on my cv joints at my mechanics shop, he let me borrow lift and tools. They are still holding good. At same time I replaced outer tie rods. I probably should of done aftermarket steering rack from NAPA at the same time for just a little more than the tie rods. At that time there was a 2 month wait on OEM steering rack. My dad still comments on how well it rides at 80 MPH.

^ I think I'm going to redo both cvs and tie rod ends as well......searching the 100 forum seems tie rod ends die at exactly 200k and cvs are of course dictated by when you lift or first rip a boot.

Seems like a good deal to me? Trying to talk the :princess: into driving it....what is the mpg for one of these?

She kinda likes the new 4runner. Went and drove one pretty nice.
I had a '99 LX, and it was a GREAT truck! MPG is just a little better than an 80, but not by much (but in every other respect (other than rock crawling), the LX the performance is an order of magnitude better!........She'd like the LX (and I know she'd appreciate the factory locker!)

MPG (with most LC's) can vary vastly. Cruising on I-20 in south GA I can see anywhere between 15MPG-18MPG. City driving in Atlanta traffic I can see anywhere from 12MPG-15MPG. Heading through the mountains or driving with a little spirit I can see anywhere from 8MPG-12MPG. I have seen as low as 6MPG, mountain pass with trailer in tow and full of gear. They are great rigs, if it drives well and doesn't have rust, I say go for it!

Mpg was about what I thought it would be. And yes the locker is something she had to have;) can y'all see we're I am going with this.... Let her get it and drive for like a month or so then let me have it and build a expo type rig.
But she is stuck on either a new Camry or a 4runner. Or maybe a Camry and a 99' Lexus:)

Dude. You need to let your sugar mamma get what she wants.

Just sayin.
