. I honestly think that was the float assembly which is with the pump structure.. kinda worded to sound like the fuel gauge it’s self.. one reason I try to do what work I can

Yea John, all looked good.. I think Andy nailed it earlier.. I need to keep it above a 1/4 to help pump life and vent it now and then.. seems to run fine now...just one of those things I guess. Way glad it happened now and where it did before my upcoming trip.

If it was a bad pump, would you expect these symptoms?

Local guy has major hesitation, bogging down, rough running andre medium to heavy throttle at speed. Stalled going down an incline offroad a week ago, then wouldn’t start.

No pressure buildup in tank. No codes.

Shout out to Chris Tolleson 49tire and crew! Rob, I can’t leave you out!
The shop built an 07 TLC for me a 2-3 years ago. Of course, I had to have large BFG AT/KO2 tires on it, Nolen’s Rx.
We lifted the truck to the full extent of the Iron Man heavy lift with the Grogan Rx Foam Cell Pro shocks, Upon delivery, I had some vibration an steering pull issues even though the alignment and balance seemed right. I wrote it off to the high lift and heavy ply tires. But, I found that I wouldn’t drive the truck much because I didn’t like the new feel on the highway.
Chris and Rob and I tried the SPC upper control arms a couple of years back and that completely remedied the steering pull but gradually my vibration and steering wag got worse.
So Chris and Rob offered to take on my issue and tried new more round replacement BFG tires on the truck. After trying several, we still couldn’t get the road force balance numbers that we were looking for. So, Chris, after all this time, offers to try another tire. He orders in a set of Nitto TG2s in a close match 10 ply size. Meanwhile, he and Rob set me up with Slee’s adjustable control arms and an adjustable pan hard bar to further align my rear axle.
I joked that they were taking on project caddi-cruiser.
Here are the results:
It happened, completely smooth ride and steering even into the 100mph range, no more high speed vibes, no more steering wag. Not only did Chris do this for me, but because of the outstanding BFG warranty, he credited the cost of the original tires towards the purchase of the new brand. He really took care of it for me and turned this rig into the fine tuned performance cruiser I had in mind.

Here’s a weird one for ya.. I was driving today with a/c going and decieded to turn it off and roll down the windows, heck it was just 85. Just about as soon as I turned off the ac the truck started acting like it was running out of fuel. I was only doing about 40 mph and had a little over 1/4 tank of fuel. Well it died but would restart but run like crap. It died a couple times but I was able to get it to a parking lot. It sure felt like a fuel pump going out. Luckily I had bought a spare denso on sale a few months ago. When I pulled the lines at the top of the pump one spit out quite a bit of gas, I assume a return line with pressure on it ? Being kinda low on fuel that’s all I could think of. Anyway I replaced the pump and after adding fuel and getting the pump primed (?) it started and seemed to run fine. But I only drove it a couple miles home. I found a receipt where the pump had been replaced about 35k ago.which isn’t many miles. ( the P.O. paid $985 to have it done CRAZY). The old pump was a denso . I see no way turning off the A/C had anything to do with it. I found a old thread where Andy replaced his pump and fixed his issues.. I’m heading out on a 3k mile trip Monday andsure hope this has fixed whatever it was. Do electric pumps normally just go out like that? It almost acted like a vapor lock situation.. do these rigs do that ? Is there a way to test my old pump ? This could have been way worse as I was only a couple miles from home, caught a ride to get the 60 and go work on it and had a pump in hand. A week later would have been bad. Any thoughts ?

That sounds like the exact same issue(s) i had, and that are prevalent among 100s based on the amount of threads out there.

In warm weather, I will never let my truck get down to 1/4 tank. I think the pump overheats and further exaggerates some pressure issues that are inherent on the 100. Also, on long runs, and especially on a run that changes elevation, i always pop my gas cap when i stop for a while.

Based on experience, if you had popped your gas cap and let it sit for 15 mins or so, you could have cranked it up and rolled out, no issues...

Add my truck to the list off 100's having this problem intermittently. First time I ever experienced it was last year in middle of summer in S. TX. I use my 2006 LX470 as a mobile office on remote work locations so unfortunately it does see some excessive idling at times due to the need to keep my laptop computer running inside climate controlled conditions.

That first time that it happened I could smell and see gas vapors exiting the fuel door so I opened the gas cap but didn't hear release of pressure (hiss) or other venting effects (fuel spewing out). After starting and running poorly I let it sit several minutes and it started up and ran normal again. This seems to fix the problem each time and recurrence comes up at random times and fuel levels.

Since then it has occurred periodically enough to observe that most times it is when daytime temperatures are pretty high and truck has been running for at least a few hours. Also usually when tank is under 1/3rd full on fuel gauge. So that matches other poster's symptoms.

I'm considering changing out my fuel pump as others have to cure this. But I also wonder if part of the problem could be found with a charcoal canister not functioning as it is supposed to? Any thoughts, feedback or results from those who have attempted a solution with this issue is appreciated

. Glad you posted this. I replaced my pump as noted earlier, then I made a 3k mile trip. In Amarillo I had a issue with tank pressure, I stopped for fuel and it had a lot of pressure on the tank and I had a hard time getting fuel in the tank. The temps had risen quite a bit. And I threw a CEL that read lean mixture on both banks. I cleared it and Andy had suggested that I vent my tank whenever I stopped, I did that often as the temps and altitude varied quite a bit. Several times I had tank pressure but it wasn’t near as bad and I never threw another code. Like you said, upon opening the cap you could see heavy fumes, I let it sit a minute or so and never had issues putting fuel in again.. I think it’s a evap issue. But would also like to hear feed back on this

I can't find any concrete information on anything except a 5 speed A750F in the GX470's from 03-09. It appears that the output/tail housing of the transmission is significantly different as well.

I've had the same experience with them on items. I know this problem isn't of your making, but I've NEVER had anything lost (or even late) with FedEx. Only thing I can figure is union vs. non-union.

Hate that for you. Hope there's some quick resolution!
