I have been having a problem with my 100 series cruiser recently. One time it will start right up with no issue at all and then the next nothing happens. I turn the key and all the dash lights and everything come on but nothing happens in the engine. It wont turn over and I can turn the key without any issue. It is not a key issue since I have tried different keys without issue. Any ideas on what it could be? It happens randomly and I usually have to sit for about fifteen minutes trying to get it to start and then one of the times I turn the key it will start right up with no issue at all. Thanks for the help!

A search for starter (contacts) issues should help

Check your battery cables and make sure they are clean and tight.

Bad EFI fuse would still let it crank, but prevent it from firing.

Another vote for bad starter contacts. Classic symptom.

Has anyone heard of the neutral safety switch? It makes it so that if the car is in Drive or Reverse it will not start. It was having the problem again today and I found that if I put it in neutral it will start but in park it wont. Maybe the switch is messed up and it thinks it is in reverse or drive instead of park? Thanks

I think it is the neutral safety switch. We are ordering a new one and swapping it out. Thanks for the help. I will update this if it works so people know.

I've one doing the same. Found by just moving shift to N or jamb into P, it starts right up. Order the N switch, but have yet to install. I'm 90% sure it is the N switch.

Edit, just saw that you could start it in neutral. Yea, check that switch.

Did the switch fix the problem? I deal with similar problems with safety switches on mowers at my work with Kubota engines and denso starters. If there is just a small amount of voltage drop going though all the safety switches it wont turn the starter, especially if the contacts are getting worn. Sometimes there develops a dead spot in the starter so it will work fine most of the time but land on that one spot and you have bump the starter to get it going. I have added an external relay to fix some voltage drop problems even with rebuilt or brand new Denso starters.

Funny thing I was snow wheeling yesterday, went out this morning at about 10 degrees turn the key to start all lights come on but nothing when turned to start. Try a few times and start right up. 2000LC

If you watch very close. The dash light typically dim, if starter is the issue. This is in early stages with respect to starter failing. I have had more than once, just week voltage from battery acts like starter issue.

If neutral switch, lights do not dim. But shifting to N or jamming to P, usual will work to start the rig. I've one for 2 years now, moving shiftier it starts every time. Only happens once in a blue moon, mostly in cold weather after GF drives. Someday I'll get around to pulling the switch and cleaning or replacing.
