Yeah, women usually look at me like I have to carry my balls around in a wheel barrow they're so big......
College students don't know anything yet.
i have to refute that. i've learned many things while serving our country, both stateside and abroad, and now with 2 kids and tackling further education i feel i've acquired the knowledge to make it in this crazy world of ours and to also equip my kids with what i feel will be valuable to them as they grow older-just as my parents have done.

Hello, I'm a sales manager for a Tracy Mazda in Ca. Sold cars for the last 8 yrs. The better half is a soon to be CPA who works for MOSS Adams. Taking her CPA exams now, pass 1 of 4 test, only 3 more to take.

. Good luck on the education/kids thing. I start med school in July with two kids in tow, also. At least when they're teenagers they won't be able to whine about how easy we had it.
3 of my brother in laws are all Medical Doctors, and one sister in law. The oldest one is the only one who has kids, and believe me they are rotten. I would have told the oldest who's a deadbeat, to beat feet long ago. Second oldest son of his has his head on his shoulders and is going to college, and has applied to medical school. The 3rd son of his remains to be seen... however he seems a bit wierd and will probably turn out like the eldest.
If you go to medical school, don't stay in the big city once you're out, except to learn and get some practice for a couple of years. Then do the smart thing - move to a small town or city and open your own practice. That's what my brother in law did, and he's a millionaire many times over now. Good luck.

I think I'll stick to selling kitchen cabinets...the pay is good, I set my own hours, no malpractice insurance, etc! However, I'm glad some of you have the tenacity to become doctors and can fix me back up!

. At just 25K miles, 2 window motors went out. GM for ya I guess. I was able to manage a 13.1 @ 107mph at the track with it bone stock w/ original RSA Goodyear tires all the way down to the paper air filter. That was great. I want to sell it soon before I get bit by the drag racing bug again this summer.Good luck with med school! What in medicine are you wanting to pursue?

I'm looking at either Anesthesia or Internal Medicine (Endocrinology). I have an LE background. So, I wouldn't mind Trauma...but I'm getting too old and feeble to spend 3am elbows deep in some drunk who stopped a concrete barrier with his face at 80mph. Besides, my 
is too great to leave home all alone in the dark.
Does anybody still drag with gasoline at #$%* dollars/gal ?

. 'Cause when gas was a buck-fifty the racing bug looked like a cute little inchworm. At $4/gal that inchworm looks more like the booger that popped out of peoples chests in 'Alien'.

You have that right. I'm in a small town now. I cancelled my UT interview because even Memphis is too big for me. After 13 years in Atlanta, I don't plan on EVER living anywhere other than a small mountain town. Spoiled kids? I'm going to spoil my wife.

Ya don't say...That's what I, um, my mom is! heheh... Board cert., intern @ Cook County, chairman of anesthesia, da da da. Very accomplished indiv. And I must say, even though she is my mama - one of the smartest people I'll ever know. Love ya Ma!
But yeh, I remember her getting up in the middle of ANY hour of the night having to rush to the hospital. That would get old real quick for me. One thing's for sure, it would get you out of a lot of speeding tickets! Heheh. "Officer! I have a patient waiting on the table for me. Do you want to be the one responsible here? Do ya!?!"
LOL. One of my FTOs told me early on not to write anyone who worked in the ER a ticket.
Congrats on getting into medical school.
Pick a specialty that you love. Don't go into medicine to get rich; there are easier ways to do that. You will work too hard and too long to do something you don't really enjoy. Trust me -- no amount of money will be worth the time you sacrifice for this career. Only the joy that comes from the practice of medicine is enough reward.
Just know that there IS a light at the end...call and the pager will wear you down, especially when you're an intern and a resident, but life gets pretty nice when you're done in just about every specialty (except general surgery).

Its funny how values change once the gray hair starts crowding out the brown. To paraphrase St. Paul, "I'm happy rich and I'm happy poor."
I'm just ecstatic to be given another chance this late in the game. The way I look at it, being an exhausted resident beats not having been accepted to med school in the first place!
I'm so excited, I may actually wash the 470........
