I think the 80 forum is a much better venue for this... :D

You don't think the 100 would get 90% of the public vote as to which is better on the Ouray-area trails?

You don't think 95% the public would vote the 80 better through the Rubicon or up Blanca?

I am not debating personal choices, I am debating tech. The above is a person choice. It was not a consumer reports article based on public opinion.

PS, those trails are not 4wheeling, they are regular roads that link towns together.

True.....because when they see Harry's picture of the extreme trail they'll all think they can run it! :D

The article was "which rules the dirt" (or, which is better) and was based on tech and design of each vehicle.

For Ouray Trails the winning "tech categories" would go to:

ENGINE = 100

TRANSMISSION = Draw or actually the 100 (no 5-speed in the 80)

TRANSFER CASE = Draw (nobody would notice a difference)

FRONT AXLE = 80 (99 and earlier) or Draw (2000+)(For these trails keep in mind)

REAR AXLE = Draw

FRONT SUSPENSION = 100

REAR SUSPENSION = Draw

STEERING = 100

BRAKES = 100

FRAME = 100

AFTERMARKET SUPPORT = Draw (for Ouray trails)

So, TECH-WISE....on these trail types the 100's technology and design set it a step ahead of the 80.

BUT HE DID NOT SAY OURAY.

One mans dirt is another mans road. Remember that. Your dirt is Ouray, mine is not.

THAT'S MY POINT! YOU CAN'T GET IT? :D

You can't just say across the board that the "80 front suspension is better for you"! You can't say across the board that the "80's Front Axle is best".

Let's turn it around:

Rubicon:

ENGINE = Draw

TRANSMISSION = Draw

TRANSFER CASE = Draw

FRONT AXLE = 80

REAR AXLE = 80 (probably)

FRONT SUSPENSION = 80

REAR SUSPENSION = Draw or 80 (because the 80 can accomodate taller lifts)

STEERING = 80 for durability / 100 for performance

BRAKES = 100

FRAME = 100

AFTERMARKET SUPPORT = 80 (for trails like this)

DIFFERENT APPLICATIONS RESULT IN DIFERRENT WINNING "TECH CATEGORIES".
