If I could only afford ONE Cruiser, no doubt it would be a 100. I'd take it everywhere, pinstripe it, and risk damage...AS I DID the first 2 years I owned it until I bought my '93. Overall it's the superior Cruiser IMO and it's more than capable for ALL trails up to "Rubicon difficulty". I'd never be happy with an 80 now that I've owned and wheeled a 100.

Since I can afford more Cruisers I've built them for different purposes. The 100 is retired from the most difficult trails and brush. I now carry clippers.

The LX450 is better suited for those toughest trails (like the Rubi) because it's smaller, and has a nipple more articulation, AND it's cheaper. So, the LX is our new dedicated trail rig since I'm giving the '93 away.

I plan on another 100 (used this time) and will dedicate it's design for the same use as the LX450. Cut the frame down, fab stuff on, L-shocks, 36's and it'll see the Rubi.

My 100 is running the moderate trails now and going on the long trips (like to CO).

Wuss.

No problem; I wasn't offended. Like I said before, the truth hurts sometimes.

I really have to watch it sometimes though because it seems like some of you guys are bashing on 100's. In reality, a lot of it is just you guys yankin' Shott's chain. It's easy to get defensive when you own the same type of vehicle that someone is bashing. But, at the same time, I also have to remind myself that Shott's brings it on himself with some of the comments he makes.

I realize that the 100 has some weaknesses and strengths. I am not in denial about its weaknesses and am willing to discuss them as long as the discussion can stay objective.

I do appreciate all the feedback that you guys have provided. A lot of us here in the 100 forum want to make our 100's capable enough to tackle some of the difficult trails in the future. I do plan on tackling the Rubicon some day. Since I live in KY, I'm limited to how many trips I can take out west. I am going to Cruise Moab this year. So, next year, maybe the Rubicon can be my annual drive across the country. Who knows...

I think you got the picture. I don't think the majority of us are bashing 100s. We'd welcome any 100 to run on the trail with us. Yes...even John's...but he's a wuss.

Some of us have seen first hand what a 100 can do and what it can't do on the Rubicon. Note that I didn't say a "trail LIKE the Rubicon"...

John likes to talk the talk...but I doubt we'll ever see him walk the walk when it comes to "proving" his blanket statements about how great his 100 is. Why? Because he's a wuss...too much of a wuss to take his 100 on real trails. Too much of a wuss to put his money where his mouth is.

:D

Have I baited you yet John?
Don't take any of this personally...I'm just messing with you.
Bring your 100...I double-dog dare you.

I knew what you were doing you wack job! :D :D

It's been a great last 3 hours. I closed a million $$$ deal so it looks like another 100 will be reality! Either my old one will get trasnformed or a new one will be a dedicated hard-core rig. Looks like I might run the Rubi in a 100 afterall. It won't be a blinged one though. It'll be a cut and fooled-with one. :)

Damn....might be the first SAS 100. It wouldn't be a UZJ. I guess it would be a SAS100? :D If I decide to, are you up to the task Slee? Cut me a special deal for experimentation.

Congrats on closing the deal.
That being the case, why bother transforming it. You 100 is already almost as capable as an 80. Bring it as it is.

If you bust it? I'll personally drive you to the Toyota and Lexus dealership of your choice in the are (we have several to choose from) to pick out a new one. You can use the new one to tow your old one back home...or heck...donate the busted one to us NorCal 80s guys... why not?

Thanks but nope. One will remain my medium-duty Expo-Blingmobile. I'll make an unusual 100 and it'll rock. That'll be the Rubi-mobile. :D

Hey, if I did not want to get paid, I can just hack the IFS off this 100 that I have in the back and put a SFA under it. :D

If I do this I'm sure you'd want to be involved? Think of all the future SAS mods to the 80-owners that wore their trucks out but have to have a SAS 100?

We could deal, huh?

Not so my friend. :)

Now change that to Most SFA parts are stronger........and I agree. Nothing = Wrong.

spin+circular logic= headache

80+SFA=crazy delicious

:D

100 is great, I really like it alot. It's better in alot of ways but not here. I guess it's hard to understand until you see it in person. I didn't really until I went on the Rubicon trip.

You guys (some of you) talk like the Rubicon Trail is the ONLY place in America to test and evaluate an off-road vehicle? :D

I got 3 Cruisers that can run. 2 easilty and 1 that eats the other 2 on almost every trail in America. Take that! :D :D

I'M KIDDING! FirstToy: You need a 100 to play around in. Just don't take it on the Rubi. :D

In case anyone was wondering what John's favorite word is...

:shotts:

omg, that smilie is named shotts!? lmao

shotts, Rubicon is not the only trail. I hear that Dusy-Ershim is good too. Why don't you take your 100 there?

WOW! YOU guys are touchier than ME! :D You missed the words......

John, you should be honored. I don't think anyone else has their own smilie!

Actually, it would still be a UZJ. Unless you're swapping out the engine as well...

No, we realize that there are plenty harder, like Fordyce and Hammers, possibly Dusy. But given where these conversations always go, it's not even worth it to bring up those. I know you haven't done any of those, so let's concentrate on the `Con, i.e. walk before you run (actually, maybe it's more like jog before you run).

I saw NorCalDoug throw down the double-dog dare, so I'll throw the triple-dog.

Shotts-I TRIPLE-DOG DARE you and your 100 to run the Rubicon with the Norcal Wagons in August! Amando will be there to spot you, and hold your hand around the campfire.:flipoff2:

edit: For extra credit, what was the name of the boy who wound up with his tounge frozen to the flag pole, after the "triple-dog dare"?

What's your take on it? :D

my take is that if it's got IFS it's not worth the effort, yes you can polish a turd, but there is a reason 99% of hardcore rigs in australia run solid axle...

but yes, i know a few people that have traded to a 120 and been dismally disapointed that it doesn't go as far offroad.

Its not that easy. I don't believe the frame of the 100 is designed the same as a 105. I believe people in the past have looked at this and the frame designs are very different requiring quite a bit of fabrication. Not saying you can't do it, just saying that it is pretty complicated and would be very expensive.

the 105 series frame is closer in design to the 80 series frame, with a 100 series body grafted onto it
