Here is the article:

AURORA - Aurora Police are investigating a double-fatal crash in Aurora.

The three-vehicle wreck happened on South Havana Street between First and Alameda avenues just before 8 a.m.

Aurora Police say a silver Lexus was driving north on Havana when the driver suddenly veered left, crossed the center line and collided with a white, Toyota Land Cruiser traveling southbound in the middle lane.

Two adult men in the silver Lexus died. One was pronounced dead at the scene. The other was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The woman driving the Land Cruiser was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police do not know why the driver of the Lexus veered into the other lane, but they suspect excessive speed was a factor in the crash.

Southbound Havana Street was closed at First Avenue while police investigated the crash.

Very sad to see. The damage to the LC is consistent with what I've seen in others involved in front collisions, and the reason my wife and kids ride in a 100.

Damn, sad that the dudes died, but that solidifies my faith in our rigs for sure.
Agreed. The silver Lexus was an LS400, not exactly a small car on it's own. Of course most everything else out there is small compared to the 100. IIRC, LS400 models have fared very well in crash tests but I don't remember if it's specific to certain model years. The one involved in the crash was a pre-1995 model.

Yup, I had a '96 LS400 before the 100 and it felt solid in every area.

Completely agree with the above. I've always thought the LS400 was very tank like, much like the 100. I guess in the 2UZ just beat the 1UZ in this situation. And ya, if speed was a factor, I'm guessing they we're thinking ahead enough to put on their seat belts. I would imagine one could survive a rollover in an LS400 if properly strapped in...

The LS is a safe car, probably no seat belts. It does look like the speed must have been a major factor and that's pretty much a direct hit to the driver's side. Takes a bit of effort to roll a car that large too.

Be safe out there guys and gals. I always hate to see bad crashes. 99.9% are preventable with safe driving, not assuming anything, and paying attention!

I saw this story this morning. I'm surprised they didn't mention whether the guys in the Lexus were wearing seat belts, especially if they weren't wearing them. The 100 isn't the biggest vehicle on the road, but it's hard to argue with the fact that it is one of the most solidly built vehicles on the road.

Update on 9News at 5pm, the two in the Lexus were not wearing seat-belts and it was a Toyota Land Rover.

^ Yup, they are the ones that DON'T mark their territory.

That is horrible. I am soooooo glad my wife drives a 100 LX with 285s. I have been T-boned in my 100 LC with all four kids in tow. Truck was considered totaled but not even close to injuries. Other driver had minor injuries....then lied and said his light was green.

So I read this sad story today at a perfect time. I have been lamenting the gas mileage (pretty much do this weekly) and after seeing those pics and reading this, I'll try harder to remind myself the price for safety...there really isn't one.
