^That's always how I feel. Not sure why certain friends feel the need to nag at me driving an awesome, safe vehicle because it gets horrible mileage... Thinking of one in particular, I hope she enjoys her hubcap-missing death trap known as the Nissan Versa -__- funny how she likes the 100 when she's riding in it:rolleyes:

It's just another expense to keep my family safe and healthy.... Just like living in a neighborhood without crime, health insurance, good food, etc.

The trend is towards 'smart cars' that are fuel efficient and have a low curb weight, but I'm with you. No sense in risking your life to save a bit on gas.

I unintentionally drove past the site today on my way to the Toyota dealership on Havana. I was headed south when I had to slow quickly for a couple of pedestrians in the middle of the road carrying what appeared to be balloons and other decorations. My wife commented on the stupidity of the pedestrians position at the beginning of rush hour, when I noticed a light pole with ribbons etc. around it, the same pole in the OP's picture.

No matter what pride we may have in our vehicles, remember, most of us were young and dumb once also, we just lived through it. I am glad they didn't take out another person in the process. Either way, RIP.

Wow, those mourning the loss of loved ones almost join said loved ones six feet under. Not to sound insensitive but that's irony in it's purest form.

I need to do a separate post on why I bought a hundy but I started searching for a safe car knowing nothing about the land cruiser. I basically spent three months poring over iihs driver death rates and injury rates looking for a vehicle with ultra low death rate and enough mass to also have a really low injury rate. The 100 series with stability control is the safest thing you can buy under $20,000. Mine weighs 5700lbs and I'm happy to pay the gas to carry around the extra mass with me.

This terrible. I recently got into an accident in my LX. Both of us thought our lights were green and my front end hit the front and side of an American sedan. No one was hurt, but the other car was destroyed. My LX had only bumper damage and a broken light.

I drive my beast when I go into Austin to play in the traffic, funny how the A-holes in their pickup trucks don't ride my butt in the 100 but if I'm in my ES350 they are on my butt. So I now only take the 100 into the city and keep the ES for the trip to the gym and around the burbs.

The LS is a tank. Had one for years in the 90s. The LC is a larger tank. Physics rules. Nasty accident any way you cut it. Sounds like the LC driver was the innocent party but will bear the mental scars regardless. Having a large car veer into your path leaves a lasting impression.

..... especially knowing that 2 humans died that moment.
