Anybody knows where I can get propane 10@ propane tanks..
They need not to be new but slim and tall (8.5"x18") like the one listed on the website below...
I need two for my trailer as I want to mount them on the side ..

Thank,

I picked one up last year at the Sports Chalet in chino hills. Sorry don't remember the price.

Thanks guys... I'll check my local shops first...

Found this website and like the 30% lighter than steel tanks... and take away the guessing of how much propane you got left...

Those tanks look awesome.

Agreed, and if your trying to shave pounds they should work. $80 for 10lbs, and $90 for 20lbs. They also have 25lbs and 33lbs forklift size. Main issue I see with them is they will need different brackets than the "standard" shapes use for securing them on a vehicle. They are all DOT approved. Another issue I see is exchange only propane places... A bit more planning may be needed to find propane filling places, but then filling has almost always been cheaper than exchanging.

Knowing composites the only issue I see is possible cracking from the pressure changes from the flexing caused by filling and discharging. Ah, on their FAQ page I found this:
Does a cylinder have to be recertified and if so how often?
Re-certification is every 5 years for the US. This consists of visual inspection of the outer casing and pressure testing of the cylinder. Other countries may have differing times. Check with us for information on re-certification for markets outside the US.

What is the life of the cylinder?
The DOT and Transport Canada rate the cylinders for a life of 15 Years.
Does anybody know the recertification time for a standard steel propane tank?

Need an on board air tank for your on board compressor?

What pressure level are the cylinders tested to?
Service pressure—294# psi (20 bar) Final Leak Check—200# psi (13.7 bar) Proof Test Pressure—441# psi (30 bar) Minimum Burst Pressure—998# psi (69 bar) Actual Bust Pressure—1150# psi (29 bar) to 1550# (107 bar)

I believe it's 12 years. The steel tanks are stamped on the handle with the date of manufacture. My 11lb is ready to be re-certified or flat out replaced.

There are lots of places to refill your tank. At least in my area of CA there is.

Hey guys, quick question about 10# tanks and camping...

Anybody using a 10# tank and with a lantern "tree?" I need to get a new tank and don't feel like i need the 20 #'er, but i'm a little worried about the tall, skinny 10# tank tipping over with a lantern 5 feet off the ground. I'm looking at the lite cylinders, too. I called them today and they were more than helpful. Looks like you can get the 20# lite cylinder through uhaul.com for $69.

First post BTW! I'm a member on a few other 4X4 sites...

welcome lurker! :flipoff2: < the quasi-official Mud salute. glad you posted up.

interesting to hear that filling is cheaper than exchange, never knew that.

getting into the pre-planning stage on my 'base camp' build: can sumbody edjamucate me on why 2 ten's instead one 25? balance/space on the trailer?

I just pull the trigger on two 10@ lite cylinders and also run the lantern tree.....

I figure if they are too light I can always secure them with a strap or sumding... not too worry tho.

I got two for my trailer at $165 with free shipping and no tax through this guys RV SUPPLY

I'll post when I get them here next week and try out the lantern tree

I need the 20lbs, just not all in one tank.. + the smaller diameter tanks fit perfect on the side of my trailer with out sticking out past the wheel wells..
I could also stuff them inside the truck...easier..... or strap them on the rear spare tire if needed..

Funny that UHAUL list the 20@ on white for $69 but the blue one for $90.

I really dig the safety feature on this tanks..
I wont go out with a BANG !!!
but,
will burn like a candle !!! :flipoff2:

Oh yeah welcome to MUD !! :flipoff2:

Ya, the light weight is mainly what I was worried about. Talked to them this morning and apparently the base on the 10#'ers is bigger around than the base on the 20#'ers.

They sent me the technical drawnings (CAD?). i'd post them but they're .PDF's and i'm not sure how that would work...

But when you get yours let me know how that tree works out!

PDF should work..
Just notice that the 20@ are the same price for the 10@ at the RV website...

Ya the prices are all over the place on these. Uhaul has the 20's for $69, but the 10's are $85... Cascade Outfitters will let you have your pick- for $100!?!?

and .PDF's...

Got my cylinders today...
They are just what I was looking for....
Although, good for only 15 years/certification every 5 years I believe...
I like them...

On regards to your question if these would be able to hold a lamp tree.. I think so. They are heavy enough empty, I can only think how much stable they would be once they are full to capacity... I havent hooked up to the lamp tree tho'.

Here is the special permit link that they go under..
This was printed on my receipt when they arrived...

Thanks for the update. I'm piecing together a new camp kitchen, and I'm pretty sure I'll be going with a Lite Cylinder 10 #'er. Enjoy it!

:Threadjack:

Next thing on the list is a new propane lantern- any body know of a burly propane lantern (ie, not your standard coleman)?

here are some pix.. of the tanks...
to your question.. I bought a Century Lantern and I bought it with its own case.. so it survives during transportation... I also bought the wire mesh after going through a few glass shields..
