I've been searching all evening and can't seem to find an answer.... is it possible to remove the CD changer from the dash of a 2010 without bricking the infotainment unit? (no rear entertainment system) My CD collection disappeared during a move sometime in the aughts and now I exclusively listen to satellite radio and podcasts via BT. I'd like to use that space to mount my Ham Radio and a few extra power ports. Anyone have any experience with a CD Changer Delete?

I would just unplug it and see if things work (I bet they do). If they don't work, just leave it in. I removed the DVD/CD changer on my GX 470 and made a sheetmetal box for the same area, then sold the changer for around $75 on eBay.

That is my backup plan. I figured I’d ask here before spending a few hours disassembling the dash.

15 min is all it would take to get it out…….ok, maybe 20. Super easy.

On my build thread, starting at post # 49: Builds - R²M 2013 GX 460 Overland Build - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/r-m-2013-gx-460-overland-build.1104719/page-3
This is how I did my HAM radio. I too never listen to CD's. I just put my HAM radio face plate and phone mount right on the CD cover. I don't use that yellow stick to hold it up.
If I'm really in the middle of know where, sometimes my XM/Sirius doesn't get reception because my RTT partially covers the antenna. So I have these micro USB thumb drives with a bunch of music. Each thumb drive has a different genre of music. I just put in the thumb drive I want to listen to. AND it never skips when I'm on washboard roads or gets dust in it.
I've been meaning to design and 3D print a much better looking one, but been real busy with so many other things.

I saw your build last night. It looks good. I’m looking for a good place to put the body of the radio not just the faceplate. Under the seat doesn’t look like the best option for this truck and I would like to avoid having to run an external speaker.
I should have some dry weather rolling in this weekend. That will give me a chance to pop some trim panels off and see if I can find a few good spots to stash a radio and fuse block.

Just a heads up, that Yaesu HAM radio is actually plenty loud under the seat for anyone in the vehicle to hear. I never have to have the volume more than half to three quarters. I've also never had any issues with it being kicked or anything else down there. But sometimes there's other things that may work better under the seat, like a CCW vault?
Enjoy your project this weekend!

No idea on effect.. I don’t recall anyone trying

This is all removed with a Tesla screen install but don’t know effects of missing changer with just stock setup.

It’s hard to tell from the pics but are the volume and tune knobs part of the cd changer?

To answer my own question…..
Removing the cd player disables ALL of the media systems including AM, FM, Xm, Aux and Bluetooth. That being said it is possible to fit a small Ham radio (yaesu ftm300) in the center console under the Cd player/ “Ashtray” area. Also there is room to mount a BlueSea 6 circuit fuse block between the cup holder and armrest. That fuse block will get connected to the house battery as soon as I figure out where that’s going.
