ok. thanks for the advice. I would still like to swap in the 350 and the th400 trans. is tha possible with either transfer case.

Post up some pics of the chevy drivetrain. Take a magnet to the tcase off the chevy if it sticks, its either a 203 or 205. If not, you have a 208 or 241. 241 tcase was not found behind TH400 trans. Other that that, we can help you ID the parts. As far as saving money, its a pretty good toss up between strength and cost effective. You can go dollar for dollar on each setup, either way the 1 ton setup is winner for strength. As it stands, food for thought: Find a 1994-up FJ80/FZJ80 and pull its axles. Rear diff with disc and somewhat centered from factory, its close to 61" wide. Cut and grind brackets off and put some spring perches. You get the best of both worlds and if you sell the axles off the Chevy, you might be able to recoup some money. Since most after market wheels are 3.5" to 4.5" backspace it will keep wider than 12.50 tires from rubbing your springs.

thanks for the info. I will be checking that stuff tomorrow. I am pulling the body off of the suburban. I will post some picks of what I got once I have more information. I looking for any advice of what you or anyone one else would do. I'm new to rebuilding but been a life long fan and I am looking forward to the work. do you have any websites for parts that you recommend?

80 series axles will be expensive and a bigger pita to install than the suburban axles.

Whatever you do, make sure you take good care of whatever body parts arent to rusted. Those doors are worth some money on ebay. A non-cracked GM dash pad is another great gold mine item. Rear AC unit and rear tailgate with working electric motor AND working key for open/closed is GM gold too. Keep the third row seat for possible rear bench option for your FJ40. Steering column may come in handy for you. And the power steering gear box and pump would be very useful for your FJ40.

Agree. No reason to do this.

Give North West in Anchorage a call 907-333-6531. Last set of locked 4.10 rears cost $1400 shipped to Kotzebue in June.

thanks for the advice about the suburban parts i was just gonna send it all to the junk yard. I will give that place a call. so do you think it is best to swap the axles so that I can use the suburban tcase.

Seriously, if you are on a budget, don't do too much. Keep the truck in running order all the time or it will will become disassembled junk before you know it.

Roger that!!
