Can anyone detail the differences between the 1 BBL carbs
that were used from '58 to '67 and from '68 to mid '69?

Thanks.

I have both a 65 and a 68, the 65 has a BIG sight glass and is different in how it hooks up. They are not a direct swap, but it could be done, I recall the fuel inlets are different and the hard line will have to be modified, a few other diffs as well

the 68 has a small sight glass.

the floats for both are the same, both brass and will swap, you can not get new floats.

I have pics of both if you would like, will have to load em to my site latter.

Thanks John. I need a spare and saw one on EBAY but it is
the earlier model -- not correct for my '68. I'll wait, as I'm
sure there is one out there somewhere. The internals of the
two carbs must be close to the same as they use the same
rebuild kits.

to be honest after looking at the pics I had, I think they would swap, but something must have been different or I would have swaped the whole carb insteed of just pulling the float out and using it in the 68 carb. Something was different, maybe the port for vuaccum or maybe it was that my 68 carb had some weird things done to it by the PO....like a cable throttle instead of the rod....

Wow. That carb sure looks pretty. I know that my carb
uses cable linkage and not rods. Also, it appears that
the fast idle linkages is not on the SD40 at the same
location as on my carb. Otherwise, they look the same.

I know that my '68 came with an air pump (early
emissions control strategy) and perhaps the carb
change was made to accomodate the air pump
system. I have only seen one or two '68's around
with the air pump still in place.

65 single barrel carb picts

Here's a couple more pictures of a 65 single barrel setup.

I no longer have the truck. I bought it for the factory soft top setup. If the floorboards weren't rusty, I would have kept it. I liked the simplicity of the engine compartment. The glass bowl fuel filter and the float bowl glass on the carb scored very high on the cool factor. Hope the picts help.

The pictures do help. Seems like I have a rod that goes from
the choke down to the butterfly to give the vehicle some
throttle when the choke is opened (the fast idle RPM is
adjusted by bending the rod -- dumb). Anyway, I am not
seeing this rod on the pre-68 carb's that you guys have.
