Got a lead on a set of wheels for cheap. But backspacing is 4". Can I, or does anyone run 1/2" wheel spacers? Or do I need longer lugs, or just pass and try to find another deal? Looking through the posts it looks like most run 1/4" or 5/16" but no 1/2" spacers.

I really appreciate the help.

I was only grabbing a few threads when I tried a 1/2" spacer. Didn't look safe to me so I never ran them.

best scenario is NOT to run spacers if you can help it.

that being said, if you have to and can get 6 - 9 full turns on the lug nuts before you hit the rim to torque down, you should be fine. just check them periodically for proper torque setting.

Not to "highjack", but wouldnt you NEED spacers if you lift your rig?
I know this guy is buying new rims, but someone mentioned its best NOT to use spacers if you can avoid this...Is this ALWAYS, or an exception in cases of a lift?

no.
with the wrong backspacing on a rim, the rim will get into the TRE's.
no amount of lift will allow a rim to clear them...

spacers aren't the terrible device everybody makes them out to be. i've run them on every vw i've owned to clear the coilover springs in the rears. porsche runs them from the factory on many of their cars. it's a piece of metal, a washer essentially. dangerous?

just make sure you torque properly, have enough threads that are grabbing, if not throw in longer studs. retorque after some mileage is put on, but you know. this is standard practice even if you're not running spacers.

No problems here

I bought 1 1/4" from a guy on ebay.. just search toyota wheel spacers..they come with studs and bolts...they are not the same as stock toyota...I have wheeled it twice, and the second time was in AR at the ramble and I ran it pretty hard with NO problems...just keep checking that they are tight! They were only $99 plus frt.
