09 vs 08 - what are the differences? (1 Viewer)

Hi,
I'm looking to upgrade a slight bit from my 06- maybe a nicer, dark interior , electronics, etc.
So, I'm thinking maybe an 08 or 09, but would like to understand the differences between them, if any.

Sorry to have to sell my sweet '06, but I'm just looking for something to make road trips a little nicer.
$35k is about my limit.

Looks like they added Bluetooth and a USB jack in'10, though I'm sure I could go aftermarket if I find an 08 or 09.

I'm looking at 2009-2011 models. Have been surprised to find both 2009's and 2011's with 90,000 miles and little difference in price. Found several 2011 year models all around 90,000 miles for $35K. 2009 models with 90,000- 105,000 miles for $32K.
Made me suspicious if 2011 was a bad year...????
Need to read up on them. Probably prefer a 2009 model so I don't cringe when I drive through brush and scratch it up or get a few dents.

My wife noted that when I scratch the truck I call it "patina", but when she does it it's my excuse to upgrade a bumper

2011 has better Bluetooth ability. Some of The 2008-9 have an electrical gremlin in the center locker. Blinking light...

Thanks for the feedback jblatl. I was just surprised at the small difference in cost between 09's and 11's. But hell....works for me.

Interesting that 09 to 11's are pretty tightly grouped pricewise. Any reason you don't want an 08? Looks like 13's are going for about $50k now, a bit too much money to have sitting in the driveway for me.

Yeah, it might be smart to get something scratchable- I was just telling my wife the same. But I do like getting something super clean because that means it was well cared for.

This hunt could take a while, but I'm patient!

Yeah, the 06 is Gold, 78k miles, and super clean. I'm probably going to sell it after I buy a new(er) one. Its really nice, and I like the 100 bodies more than the 200's . But it's getting a little dated with interior comforts. I do remember having the same trouble moving from the '97 FJ80 to the current 100 series. But I kept the '97 and my daughter is now using it, so I still get to see it every day

I hope I don't regret letting the 06 go.

yes all mine are scratchable...brand new or not. I am looking for anything from 08-11. But I need a vehicle with low miles really. Like 50,000 to 70,000. I'm putting an little drive together to cross Russia. So I'll be tearing anything I buy apart, upgrading factory parts, adding al kinds of things. Looking for two other vehicles that want to go. Usually the trip is done with three. Lots of deep rivers to cross. I'll put some notices out on some Russian forums. They love that s*** and some of the mountains that you go through are unreal. Snorkels and winch are definitely required. 4 wheel lockers saves time winching or towing.
If I find a platform all built out and awesome...but a ton of miles I may add a new engine. But with a lot of miles so may other things come into play. Every friggin moveable part. So it is easier to just start withnew or low miles. Toyota Tundra would be great for this type of travel.

Highly recommend looking at Cruisers in Southern California...especially LA and Orange County...San Diego. Rust free...and there seem to always be a good number of PERFECT...never-taken-off-road LCs in LA/Orange county. I've bought both my perfect (3 year old at the time) and my perfect 200 (7 years old at the time) in Irvine, which is south of LA. Both found via AutoTrader.com, and both were absolute gems. It might see far, but man...it's about $60 flight from Denver even on short notice. If you buy it? -Just a beautiful drive ahead of you on your way home.
