Im seeing LC’s for listing prices of 30-35 ish. Similar mileage LX’s at around 25-30 ish.

Found this interesting. Guessing people like the ‘yuppie’ aspect of owning a ‘Land Cruiser’ opposed to a ‘Lexus.’

What do you all think about the dash differences?

I would assume most LX's would be mall cruisers, no off road use. Where the LC would have harder use and off-road. Pricing should be the other way around? Must be a supply issue?

No I paid much more for my used LC, about $5k more. People who seek them used are most like mudders. Although I do think the LX is good for offroading just needs a good pair of sliders to go on it.

My buddies and I debate the LC vs LX thing alot. Most of them prefer my LC over the LX although I am leaning to LX because of how AHC handles the bumpers.

I'd agree it's a supply issue. In the secondary market, there seems to be more demand for the LC to be used by "mudders". Which is in contrast to the original buyer pool who may be looking for more luxury qualities rather than the off-roading qualities.

Also as interesting is how many original buyers have said LX's can be had for only incrementally more with quite a bit more of standard level of equipment. Or at least they can be had at discounts that the LC doesn't see. It may be an opportunity as there may be more value to be had in the LX. And the luxuries don't diminish the fundamental capability of the platform.

At this level of purchase, choices are highly discretionary. So if the LC is the style you want, than that's what one may be willing to pay for.

Exactly why I bought an LX instead of an LC which I was shopping for. Picked up a 2010 LX with 76k miles for $32k. While shopping I couldn't find any LC's under 100k miles for less than ~$34k-$35k.

Just need some 18" wheels and it will work great for what I need.

If the LX meets your needs for sure get an LX over LC, no brainer there.

Simple, Land Cruisers are more in demand and less in supply. I passed over a lot of really nice LX's. Why? Primarily because of AHC. While Slee now has AHC compatible sliders and while it's purportedly a heavy-duty system, I prefer the simply mechanics of a conventional coil/strut system.

Was it not for the overlanding community I'm sure the pricing would be inverted as the LX has some really nice features and finishes.

Interestingly, a similar phenomenon exists with the 120s and 150s between the 4R and GX. The 'rugged' 4R carries a premium. In the case of the GX, however, the AHC system is completely removable and for that platform I'd go GX anyday over the 4R. Less cost and more value.

Remember to discard any "Offleaseonly" repaired wrecks (which always populate the lowest price area) when comparing prices.

Rear screens, nav joystick, front end, complexity of AHC (as nice as the system functions, the added maintenance was a turnoff) are all huge negatives on the LX

My take is that far more New-LX-buyers tend to sell them after a few years compared to LC buyers. Once that new car smell dissipates, many of them want renewed bling.

The LX has the "status" the LC lacks, and when that is a motivator for the got-every-toy type buyers...they get bored quickly and either trade them in or sell.

For example: One of our members says he buys a new LX EVERY YEAR.
I think that's nuts...but to each their own wallets.

I'd be interested to see duration-of-ownership figures between the two. I think I might be close.

I don’t think the buyer or the pereived extra maintenance has anything to do with the prices. Lexus has been making the most reliable cars for the past many years. These price discrepancies are only exclusive to the US market because they are simply exporting here less numbers of LCs than LXs. Also, they only sell the most expensive LC trim here which keeps the price almost as the same level as the LX when new. Overall, it is a small market compared to the size of the country and the numbers of cars available skew the results.

I know a fair number of second hand cruisers get bought and sold overseas with ridiculous markups. Wonder if this also takes away some of the supply of LC's moreso than the LX's?

Weighing in from Australia. LX are $5-8k more expensive used than similar LC Petrol and about the same as a Turbo diesel. It's funny, I don't believe the 570 is superior to the 470, the interior doesn't feel as high spec, however the 200 feels worlds above the 100.

Also important to note our Petrol 200s came with the 4.7 then 4.6 in 2012 and the 5.7 was reserved for the LX. I also think people may be put off by the approach angle of the LX570s lower front lip.

That said, I would much rather a TLC 200 than an LX570 but I would much rather an LX470 than a TLC 100.

It's no more complex than the braking system, and it doesn't have the added complexity of ABS. This system was designed for use in the Australian outback, and after having proven itself there for years, Toyota bought it.

I'm sure the perceived lack of AHC performance is 90% ignorance (myself included) and 10% truth. And at then end of the day, I'm paying a $8K 'penalty' in running the LC ($4K pemium on hull value and $4K in building the suspension up).

Hard to believe it's as low maintenance, trouble free, and long lasting as coil springs and shocks / struts.
