I wanted to share all the info on my build as a way to give back to the community that I have learned so much from.

I bought this 07 GX470 in October of 2020. It had 128K miles and was completely stock. I came from a 2016 4Runner Trail w/KDSS I bought new. I sold the 4R because we needed to replace my wife's CRV with something bigger.

I started with getting a lot of maintenance items done. It had a decent record of maintenance when I bought it. I plan on keeping this for a long time and want it running good.

My goal for this is to be a vehicle I can take camping, exploring, and doing some semi technical trails every once in a while. I put about 3K miles on it the first year. I have a work vehicle, that is why the mileage is so low.

Here is a list of what I have done so far:

MAINTENANCE

● Timing belt and water pump
● OEM Spark Plugs
● X2 power AGM battery from batteries plus
● Driveline service, Mobil 1 75-90 for all 3
● Front wheel bearing assemblies from Blue Pit Bearings
● Rear wheel bearings
● New fluids for transmission, coolant, power steering
● New Radiator
● New factory lower control arms
● New Sunroof

AFTERMARKET UPGRADES

●Metaltech rear coil conversion kit
● Ironman Foam Cell Pro stage 3 (front and rear shocks/springs, UCA, adjustable panhard
● Duro Bunpstops front and rear
● Metaltech Goblin stage 2 front bumper
● Metaltech Pegasus stage 3 rear bumper
● RCI sliders
● Smittybilt X20 winch with synthetic rope
● Factor 55 Flatlink E, fairlead, and hitch receiver
● BFG K02 285/70/17, C load range
● Level 8 mk6, 0 offset
● Prinsu rack
● Xenon Depot HID kit
● Ironman snorkel
● Sy-Klone 9001 precleaner
● Precision led interior bulbs
● Rad Rubber mud guards

FUTURE PLANS

● High output alternator with the Big 3
● Hewitt secondary air bypass
● Tint (long overdue)
● Custom made drawer system by myself
● Magnaflow overland series exhaust (or pipe mod)
● New headlamps

Let me know if you have any questions about anything and I will do my best to answer them.

You built it up fast. Enjoy the outdoors

Thank you. I had looked at mods for the 4runner for a few years so I knew mostly what I wanted done. The rear bumper came sooner than planned because the bigger spare would not fit in the factory location. I figured if I was going to spend 1k on a tire carrier only I might as well get the full bumper. I needed the spare since this was the first summer of camping with my boy.

-Front bumper and snorkel

The front bumper fit nicely. The smittybilt winch just barely cleared with the solenoid moved to the side position.

The Ironman snorkel fit great and the template was good. I just need to install the rivets in the pillar. I tried gorilla permanent tape and that did not hold up. The snorkel install was the hardest part of the build so far due to the lack of space to install the bolts that hold it to the body.

-Rear Bunper

The rear bumper went on decent, just a little more work than the front. I did have manufacturing issues with the swing arm multiple times but finally was sent a working part. If you get this bumper make sure to order the $300 side wing supports. When opening the swing arm, the bumper had a good amount of flex on the sides with just the spare tire attached where it almost hit the fender. In my opinion it should be included with the purchase. After installing the supports it is much better.

Your rig looks great! I have an ‘04 GX470. I’m replacing the front wheel hub assembly this weekend. At 195K it’s long overdue. The rear looks more difficult. Any advice on replacing the rear wheel bearings?

Thanks. They will need to be pressed in, so you will need to take it to a shop with the proper equipment. I had a local Toyota dealership replace mine. They charged 1800.

Thanks for the info. I’ll plan to do it sometime this year. Are there any indicators that the rear bearing need to be replaced?

My front bearing pass the “shake test” but make noise that increases with speed.

There's a few videos out there showing tests you can do. I lifted the rear and spun the wheels. I felt more resistance in the right rear and also a slight grinding noise. Toyota verified it was bad so I decided to just get both done atthe same time.

Sounds good. I’ll check mine this weekend. Thanks again.

Installed the Yodateq hood light kit. Simple install and it provides a lot of light. I had to drill 1 hole for the switch to be mounted. Also showing the SDHQ battery terminal upgrade. It has multiple ports to make it easier to attach accessories.

The wiring of the light for the rear bumper was pretty easy. They are the same lights that the front bumper has and are bright. I tapped in to the wires just before it goes into the trailer plug. My neighbor helped me and we used heat shring tubing the whole length. I used t tap connectors from Amazon. They are working good but I'm not sure about long term reliability. It seems to me that they are equivalent to what sharkbites are for plumbing, not something you want there long term.

TPMS Disable

Finally got around to disabling the tpms light. I tried the grounding method and it did not work. The light went away for a few seconds and came back. I researched some more and found a post by RH22 that said that later models need to have a 5V source to disable the light which is the green/red wire in the same loom. I used a t tap connector to connect them and the light is gone. I drove the truck and everything working normal, no lights.

Decided to add some solar. It's a 100W Renogy solar panel. Installed on the roof rack with stainless hardware and hinges so it can tilt. Just need to figure put a bracket to hold it in place when tilted. I'm going to run my iceco jp40 fridge with this and a jackery 300.
