I ordered these bulbs to turn the 470's virtually unused map lights red for some upcoming night driving. There is a thread in the 80 forum that was my inspiration. I've already changed to the red LED bulb in my 80 and am awaiting the light shield. I like it a lot so far.

The issue I am having is that I am not able to get the screw holding the overhead console loose. I tried it with a regular Phillips-head screwdriver and couldn't turn it so I, in error, got out the impact driver. All I've done now is basically wreck the screw's head. Anyone have some genius eureka!-type idea on how to best proceed. Really I am just wanting to swap out bulbs but, in case the my wife (her primary whip) doesn't like it, I would like to easily swap them back the battery guzzling incandescent bulbs that are currently installed.

Thanks in advance for looking!

Perhaps I am misunderstanding your goal here, but on the off chance that I am not.... If all you want to do is replace the bulbs, then there is no need to unscrew anything. Just pop off the clear plastic lenses, replace the bulbs, and then replace the lenses.

The lenses pop off? Do you need a pick or something to get them off? I was under the impression that the console assembly had to be removed to access the bulbs.

Yep they pop right out with a small/thin flat screwdriver. If you look closely at the perimeter of the lenses you will see slots for inserting the screwdriver.
