i have been looking into roof racks, and there seems to be plenty to pick from. are there any to stay away from? and what setup are you using

to name a few:
for cross bars i have seen: quick-n-easy, yakima, thule, proline and many more
for baskets: surco, winderness, empi, proline, and on and on

i have two thule cross bars, but they seem kinda crappy, they slide, anyone use proline with extension?

I'm using a Wilderness Sport rack - 4" sides and 1/2 length of the roof. So far, so good - I keep the spare up on top as well. I't strong enough to walk across - (I'm 6'2" and 225). Came with 4 gutter mounts. Assembly and installation was very easy. Got the light mounts on it as well - 4 front 2 back. The spare takes up some room - but all in all, no complaints.

mine is from Land Crusiers Northwest. I like it a lot. We used conferr clamps.

I have the full length Winderness rack on my fj80, its been a GREAT rack. If I were to do it again for the 60 I would go with the 4" instead of the 6"

I have the Con-Free rack on mine with bulldog mounts . I put 3/4 in ply wood floor and even painted it white works as a great jungle top lowered my inside temp by alot ... and me and my other200+ lb friend sit up there with a cooler of beer and what concerts all the time :D

I have a conn-ferr, with conn-ferr mounts. The floor is just fence posts (need to be replaced) but supported me +2 for fireworks last July.

i agree the yakima or thule feet are great for a 20lb mountain bike, but leave a little to be desired on anything over that. i have had thule feet on my last 5 cars/trucks, no matter how tight you crank the allen bolts down you can easily move them

great pic, you helped me decide on which feet not to use.

con-ferr question, are you using the short or tall con-ferrs

hds-8 short (3"-4.5")
hdt-8 tall (6"-8")
hd-8 (6") they list this one for using with there rack

i just bought the tradesmen rack from man-a-fre. cost a bundle, but i will never have to buy a new one, EVER. made like a tank, with one-piece construction. the sides, mesh floor, and the full length gutter mount, everything.
i didnt want to deal with MAF but it was the only place who i found could get them. be carefull of the "in stock" promise.

i used the short mount ... It's hard to clean the roof cause there ony 1/2 in off the roof but I wanted it as low as i could and run the 6in rack

not really milage, just that I seldon needed the 6" high, the 4 would do me fine and I actaully think the 4" looks better on a 60.

I want a OEM non US roof rack.....found one but it was missing the feet/mounts ect.......and those are unobtanium :(

pimp,
