Anything that uses those cheeseball stamped steel gutter mounts/risers are nothing but POS. After you get some real gutter mounts the rack itself is only as good as the design, materials, and workmanship. The POS rack I built as shown here https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=33304 with tree branch lodged and seperated from tree in pic #1...has also carried 12 6X6X16' pressure treated up there as well. Ya, I know a bit over loaded especially with only 4 quik-n-easy gutter mounts spreading the load. I'd pay good money to see those POS poser Yakimas et al do that. Buy and/or build want you want...just understand what you getting in return. .....man I'm in a pissy mood tonight.

Wilderness 6 inch, full length on my 60. Beefy, but heavy. You can jump up and down on it. I've had parking problems too, and would probably do the 4 inch next time. You almost never really need 6 in of height. Went to a steel shop and built my own floor to save at least $200. Just buy the frame and clamps from Wilderness, then get ya some 3/4 inch square tube (can be fairly light guage), rattle can of rustolium, some rubber end caps, and a slew of carriage bolts, nuts, and washers. Helps to have a drill press. They want like $300 for $75 bucks worth of steel in the floor kit.

Hey Mark, I saw your rig at Lowe's the other day, you were parked a few spaces down from me. Great looking truck, the rack is really nice!

I have a Thule rack with 3 crossbars. I carry a 32 inch spare and a high lift up there. I have had no problems so far, and I have even driven the truck on a dirt road once. It was really bumpy.

But , Doc, was it really, REALLY bumpy?

Thanks. What sold me was the flooring that Bill puts on it. Very solid plus lots of attach points to bungy things on. You can easily walk on it if you wanted. Bill was great to work with also. He gave a detailed engineering drawing since I was ordering a custom size rack with hi-lift mounting. He aslo kept me up to date on the building process, etc. The hardest part was the shipping since it was a full size rack but figured I would have to deal with this anywhere.

Thanks,
Mark
