New tire pics... A work in progress

Okay, I know you can't really wheel with 37s on the stock suspension and the lift is coming soon so don't give me any crap about rubbing, no room to stuff, yada yada... I know . Just though I'd post these so some who may be interested can see what 37s look like on a stock suspension (although I do have a 1" body lift to clear the over the frame exhaust). For what it's worth, I have driven around town and have yet to rub anything (I have removed the mud flaps and trimmed the front bumper back a bit) even going over speed bumps and such. There is obviously way more room underneath. Anyways, I'll be updating this as the build progresses.

For reference purposes, these are 37 x 12.5 x 17 BFG Mud Terrain, KM2s (the brand new ones ) on 17 x 9 Pro Comp rims with 4.75" backspacing. I'll probably be running 1.5" spacers when I get the lift on.

those tires look sweet! thats pretty crazy that you put those on without a lift. looks good though. keep us posted.

Wow! factory gears?

Is that Junk's old truck?

Too straight.

That just looks plain mean! I love it!

What you have shown is what I hope to do in the next year or so. Except I don't really want to lift the truck very much so I plan to trim the fenders up and maybe do a 1-2" suspension lift.

I was going to wait but they came in and were all mounted up and ready to go so what is a guy to do? When the guy rolled them up beside the Cruiser (which had 31's) he said "no way are these going to fit". I told him to mount one up and then I jumped up and down on the bumper and it was fine so I told him to mount the rest. They were all pretty much in disbelief. I just smiled and said "It's a Land Cruiser...". There were lots of lookers there.

Yup, 4.88s are next on the list although I was amazed at how little the 37s affected the Cruiser. I wouldn't say it is a dog by any means. I just turned the OD off and put the power button on like others have done. I actually think I'm going to re-prioritize a little and push the gears back behind some of the other mods. All of it should be completed in the next few months anyways if all goes well. We'll see about that...

Don't think so... Got it from a dealer in Ohio. She's in really great shape, inside and out.

1-2" would be a bit small. That would put you right at about where I am right now since I have the 1" body lift. It just wouldn't cut it. I think you could get away with 3" + 1" body but even that would be tight. I'm ultimately going to be at 5" + 1".

I plan on moving a fair amount of metal to make it work. I figure 37s are only 2" bigger in radius than my current 33s, so if I can move the metal 2-3" I should be ok to run 36-37s. I really don't want to do any lift, except to get the belly up a bit higher.

Their not bad around town, but suck big time on mountain roads, slow lane, flashers on, first gear!:D:crybaby:

If you want stock power get 5.29s. I have 4.88s and 37s and I will be going to 5.29s soon.

Those wheels match the dark color scheme of the 40th, not to mention on a sage it looks really good.

I wasn't too sure about the machined lip but I think it looks pretty good...

Hey Dan,

Based on my calculations, with 4.88s I should be running at a slightly higher RPM at any given speed than with stock tires and 4.11s. Am I missing something or are you also taking into account the weight of the tire?

Did a quick test today just to see how much/where it would rub first. Drove the cruiser up about a 45 degree hill, drivers wheel first, and got it up there far enough to lose traction in the rear with no rubbing. I'd guess the front wheel was about 3 feet off the ground. I backed it back down and locked the rear and went up again and it started to rub in the right rear. It is rubbing on the inside of the wheel well as well as on the fender flare. As stated before, this is just for kicks and grins. Not trying to prove anything, just messing around.

where'd you get the body lift? how much did it cost?

Actually I made it myself. I just bought a 12" X 16" X 1" piece of UHMWPE from a local plastics distributor (you don't need near that much. 16X6 would be enough). I cut the pucks with a 2" hole saw, drilled the bolt holes and installed them. I think all together it cost me somewhere under $50 for the whole thing, including bolts. In hind sight it would be better to just have the pucks cut by water jet if you have access to somewhere that will do it cheap. The hole saw was a pain. That stuff is tough...

Would real hockey pucks work? They grow on trees in these parts!

Never done it but I've been told they will eventually just fall apart. The sheet of plastic was like $35 and you could get away with half of what I got. It is the same material that the big companies use. It's good stuff.
