Well, I've been spending a lot of time on this site over the last few months,
and it's been a tremendous resource.

So I thought I would tell you a little bit about my dealio. And share some pics.
Thought it deserved more than just being on the registry.

Also wanted to give props to David and the guys @ Urban Landcruisers.

I've owned my 83 FJ60 for about 7 yrs. Bought it with 65K, now has about 100K.
It spent 4yrs in storage while I lived in Hawaii.
Wrecked it before I left, so now the front end is a heap of mangled rust.
Drove it wrecked for a couple years and been saving up to repair it.
It will be my DD, with anywhere from 20-500 miles/wk. And I will be taking customers around in it.
(I'm not in the sex or drug trade):frown:

So you get the idea.
I want it to be like I just drove a bad-ass truck off the lot.

David, and the guys down @ Urban Landcruisers here in ATL
are helping me spend my money.

They have been great to work with.
Unfortunately the out-sourced paint-shop has not been such a pleasure...

over the last year we have
-rebuilt front/rear axles
-rebuilt power stearing box
-upgraded to his Mil spec. battery cables/optima battery
-some other crap
-compression on the engine is good

now I'm in the process of
-body work/rust elimination/paint
-ARB Bull Bar
-Hella driving lights
-OME/Dakar lift
-some interior work
-Back to OEM rims/new BFG A/T 33x10.5 (I think)

Here's before pics (from my phone)

Here's where we're at now. (body and paint)

(typical before and after. Before?-dark and grainy 0.3 megapixel
After?-sunny 5 megapixel)

Anyways, that's my deal.
It's good to be a part of mud.
Thanks for everyone's help (past and future)

I will post new pics as she develops further.

That is great! I am pretty jealous, since I would love to get some of that stuff off my list now too. My suggestion is to have them not put any of the chrome parts back on and black out all of the plastic pieces. That would make it look very clean. Whatever you sell, your customers would like to know you have that kind of attention to detail.

I have the same wheels and love em. I say keep em.

Post some pics with it done.

Wow, that really looks good.

That's awesome. Really like that color!

I am also digging that color. Kind of getting tired of my plain old silver. What was the final cost of the paint job minus the front body work?

Thanks everyone
glad you like

Colorado, are yours 15x10? Mine are.
If they were 15x8, I'd keep em too.

as far as cost?
that's yet to be determined....
Let's just say we didn't get what we paid for.
expected a $3K paint job and got a $750 result

You can't tell from the pictures, but it's in the details.
Trust me.

Spacers for 91-92 80 series rims

So I'm still debating what to do w/ the rims.

How about 91-92/80 series OEM 15x7, with 33x10.5 and spacers?

Some how keep a certain level of OEMness, but update it, kinda like
the paint color..
Any newer 80 series wheel is too modern for my taste.

I saw a thread that recommended 1" spacers for a similar set-up..

Does anyone have any additional input/suggestions on this??

Thanks:cheers:

Two options not discussed often:
16X7 OEM 60 series steel wheels, bolt on
16X8 OEM 80 series steel wheels, needs a spacer.
Both will be rugged as hell, and with the "old school" look you want.
There are threads on here with part numbers. CDan can order 'em for you.

Goldeneagle, mine are 15x8:

I could see what you mean by the 15x10. I think those are too big for the tires I have (33x12.5). If I were to go to a bigger tire I would go with that sized wheel, but not for what I have.

Keep on the shop to get the job done right of give you back your money.

update w/ pics

Well I've got my truck back!
Put a new set of 33x10.5 on my old 15x10 rims for now.
They look better than I expected, but I still need to settle on
some narrower rims. The steering is so much easier w/ the 10.5.
And the OME/Dakar lift is an amazing improvement over
the old extended shackles and add-a-leaf set-up I had.:D
Although I don't think it's gonna fit in the garage w/ the rack:doh:

David Dearborn @ Urban Landcruisers came through on the $$.
I was VERY pleased with the outcome.

You can see in the pic from the drivers side that the hood doesn't line up right.
The whole front end is slightly jacked....
But it will be done right, soon.....

Now my other problem:mad:
Yesterday the truck was hard to start and wouldn't idle. Had to choke it or gas it up to 2K RPM's to keep it from stalling while going down hills slowly or @ stop signs. (adjusting idle had NO effect)
As it got hotter in the day, it ran fine. (but was still very hard to start)
Took it to get emissions test and it failed, said I had a leak @ the bottom of the carb.
David said they emptied my tank, changed my fuel filter and cleaned out the carb a couple days before I picked it up.....

Any further tips???

I really like the look of your truck... congrates.

How much side window tint is legal in GA? In BC they won't let it go that dark. But I like the look of it with your paint colour.

The skinny rims I was talking with you about would look great on that truck. I say spend the money on the 16 non usa toyota rims. They would look great.

Awesome job. The hood isn't too hard to adjust, just slow and painful. It can be annoying. I just did mine not too long ago.

Thanks!
I'm not sure about Ga Law.
The windows were tinted by PO in Florida.
Never hassled by anyone yet....

It started quick and drove great tonight:confused:

I'm pretty sure Georgia law frowns
upon tags dated 04, though.:grinpimp:

Should be legal by Wednesday hopefully.
And don't worry, I got it insured before I picked it up.

Ain't she purty

Well it's been a year:doh:
But I've got her back for good.
It was quite a journey,
but finally found an excellent body shop
who took his time, but did it right.
Couldn't be happier:D

absolutley beautiful. I am sure you have just inspired me to go ahead with the paint and interior now that I have most the mechanicals sorted out. I really like the color.

I've still got the rims, stacked in the garage.
My 1-car garage.....
It's a tight squeeze:eek:

Thanks for the praise
It's exactly what I had envisioned.
But as we all know, I've only just begun......

Ended up cutting out the rear quarter, they were
mostly bondo/rust. So I got new metal there.
Sandblasted probably 75% of the truck through
3-4 coats of paint. fixed a LOT of roof rust.
(A second time)

If I ever was to sell this rig, I wanted to be confident
in the repairs done. And now I am.

Bad news is, I spent a fine dime repairing the A/C back in the beginning, before it got lined up for body work.
And now I've got it back and it doesn't work.
I never even got to use it!
I drove the truck for about 3 weeks in march while we got a new
body shop lined up. (that's when I started this thread)
I tested the A/C, but never used it, didn't need it.

:frown:

Awesome looking ride.. I am about to start cleaning my 62 up and making it look nice. Where did your wife get you those seat covers?

Chris
