What is this (blower thing near carb) and does anyone want it?

It is a carb cooling fan. I have one, but never reinstalled it after the rebuild. I haven't noticed a difference, but I'm running a weber, so YMMV. Rob

Old Electricals - Stupid Question #1

I pulled all of mine and cleaned them. If you go this route, lay a sheet down on a clean floor. Lose one of those tiny springs, balls, or copper switches, and you will probably have to buy a new one. Rob

    Bucket Seat For Fj40

I pulled some seats from a mid 90's BMW 3 series. 325 or 328, all vinyl. They are super comfy, high quality, and the vinyl has been out in the rain for years with out any issues. Leather is for the 80 series. Rob

What do you put between aluminum and steel

I did the aqualu tub and cowl, and used a rubber paint to isolate the metals. 6 years now and no issues. The paint is the rubber stuff you buy by the quart at lowes/hd to dip tool handles in. $4 a quart or so. Rob

How to tell if oil pump was installed without dropping pan???

I'm going to try to spin it, and check for oil at the sender. This motor has been sitting for about a year and a half so a little oil getting moved around before start up is probably good for it.

How to tell if oil pump was installed without dropping pan???

Excellent news. The motor is on a stand, so no way to start it up. I really didn't want to pull the pan after I got the motor in the truck. Soooo much easier when rotated up in a stand. I'll look tommorrow and see what it looks like. Thank you guys. I can't believe what a boneheaded move...

How to tell if oil pump was installed without dropping pan???

I have a motor about to go into my truck, that I have cleaned up and replaced the gaskets on. Unfortunately I haven't worked on the motor in about 6 months, and came across two oil pumps in my parts area. I'm quite sure I only had one spare. So I'm not sure that I installed it after I...

Well which color do you guys like???

On that color, I'd go white. I like black alot, but usually on darker 40's. Mine is black, on a panzer gray body.

    The Ultimate Seat Replacement thread

I tossed in a pair of seats from a 1996 BMW 3 series. I looked for sporty bolstered seats in vinyl, no power options. These fit the bill, and have been catching rain for three years with out a hiccup. Very comfy, and very easy to put into my aqualu body on my 1979. I'm not sure on the...

How wide is too wide for a daily driver tire?

35x15.5's here, daily driven, no power steering. Driven it from Ky to Ct about 3 times round trip. Gas mileage sucks, as does the tire whine, but not a big deal overall.

    TLC ICON Soft top

FloridaFJ80, I would be very curious about the idea. Were you the purchaser of the top from columbia? Do you have any idea of a ballpark figure on price?

    Best Hardtop Removal Ever

I've never used my tractor to remove the hardtop, but it is going to be my engine hoist for the new motor. Just hoping that I can finesse the hydraulics better with the motor than I do with the hay. Won't have any problem carrying the weight.

    Man-a-fre drop down aluminum tailgate?

I was dissapointed that every fastener for the tailgate, fenders, tub windshield and cowl were standard. I swapped over alot, but haven't gotten rid of them all yet. I'm certain that the bolts sold to the canadian market would be metric, so it shouldn't be a difficult request.

    Man-a-fre drop down aluminum tailgate?

I've had mine about 4 years now, and has held up just fine, very nicely built piece, though I wasn't impressed with the SAE bolts instead of metric.

    Rotating Engine on Stand

just finished turning the motor over. My brother and I supported a little weight, and my girlfriend actually spun the motor. It was much easier than I thought it would be.

    Rotating Engine on Stand

I'll be trying this later today myself, but on a 1000 pound stand. If it falls and #@$%'s up my new motor, you'll hear the curses all the way from frankfort!
