    Window regulators interchangeable?

My window regulator on my 1980 pickup is getting more and more difficult to manipulate. I tried to backyard fix it but the housing is so worn there's no solid way to rebuild it. I've had trouble finding one for a 78-83 driver's door locally, but there are plenty of 84+ doors to pilfer. Does...

    Rough idle on fresh rebuild

I adjusted my valves to the specs designated for my cam = no change. Tomorrow I am going to put my old "knockoff" weber carburetor from my old engine onto this new motor to see if there's a difference. I know it functions well and the jets are a size smaller. I have my fingers crossed.

    Rough idle on fresh rebuild

Do you guys think I could have a bad harmonic balancer? I replaced my front main seal before installing the engine because the guy I got it from had tweaked the rear seal putting it in and I wanted the piece of mind. I had to be pretty rough with the pulley and stuff to get it off but didn't...

    Rough idle on fresh rebuild

I did some research on the cam that is "supposedly" in my truck. It's a Comp Cams 87-119-6 camshaft, and the specs on their website show an intake and exhaust valve lash setting of .010 for both. I set mine to factory specs of .008 and .012. I won't get a chance to adjust it until tomorrow, but...

    Rough idle on fresh rebuild

Ok, I definitely didn't look at it from that angle. I still have the guys info, so I will ask him some more info in addition to inspecting it. If it boils down to something like that I guess I will be giving engnbldr a call to order up what I need to replace the cam.

    Rough idle on fresh rebuild

I just finished the install of a rebuilt 22r in my truck. While going through the initial break in and adjustments i have been unable to identify why it has a shake/vibration to it. I have adjusted timing twice, done the lean best adjustment on the rebuilt weber carb, adjusted my valves, and...

Rear main leaks after replacement...blow by?

I ordered some new rings that should be in by tomorrow. It'll probably take me another week to get them in and have everything buttoned up but I will definitely report on the progress. Thanks guys.

Rear main leaks after replacement...blow by?

No, it didn't have a/c from the factory, but where there's a will there's a way!

Rear main leaks after replacement...blow by?

So I just read an article online describing how something called "ring ridge" could cause the top ring to break when pulled out of the cylinder, especially straight across from the ring gap with a clean (non carboned) break. I now wonder if I broke the rings unknowingly during removal. There is...

    1982 SR5 Longbed

That looks like a great deal to me. I paid way more for mine...and even though it runs the motor turned out to be toast anyway. There's just not many of this body style in decent cosmetic shape for sale.

Rear main leaks after replacement...blow by?

I finally had a chance to do some investigating. I decided to pull the pistons with the engine still in the truck (right or wrong, it was pretty easy). And this is what I found o_O All four pistons had broken top rings...... I don't know what I was expecting but I guess I am kind of happy...

Rear main leaks after replacement...blow by?

Yeah, I examined those too. I could tell there was no residue on the back side when I had the transmission out. And since then I have run my hand up and down the backside of the valve cover and head with no oil showing up.

Rear main leaks after replacement...blow by?

I hate starting new threads, but I feel like I have to just to confirm my suspicions before I go ahead and order a rebuild kit for my 22r. A couple weeks ago I bought a 1980 4x4 long bed that has a newer transplanted 22r with a 5spd mated to it. Overall its a pretty decent truck but has quite a...

    purchase advise

Thanks. So far I have been pretty happy with it. The truck is in slightly worse mechanical and cosmetic condition than I usually look for, but it makes up for it in the cool factor. I have been doing a ton of research on trying to definitively identify the engine, transmission, and t-caee...

    purchase advise

I have been trying to do a little research on this truck and from the plate in the engine compartment it is a 20r engine with an L43 tranny. But everything I read says that is a 4 speed. But there is also vague info that the SR5 had a 5 speed. I haven't had time to research other identifiers...

    purchase advise

So....I bought the truck. This time I went over there with the discerning eye of a purchaser that actually had the money! The funny thing is, what I expected to be a problem is not even a problem at all. The first time I drove it a few weeks ago jet was rainy and cool out, and I don't thinkci...

    purchase advise

Thanks guys. I am going to pick it up in a couple hours. I am kind of at the point where I will just be satisfied if it makes its way home under it's own power. The more i look at the pictures, the more I know I just have to have it. I have had 3 FJ60's, two Tacoma's, three 4runners and a 2nd...

    purchase advise

After some thinking and reading i am getting the impression I may be over complicating my concerns. I don't think the truck has been driven much over the past few years. So a tune up and vacuum line rundown would probably make a world of difference....thus exposing my novice automotive...

It only has some BFG 30x9.50's on it, and I assume stock gears. It looks to be very unmolested or modified.

    purchase advise

I have decided to take a break from FJ60's and mess around with a mini truck. After hunting around for a relatively unmolested 1st gen 4x4 pickup (very few options to chose from in my area) to have as a project, I have found one that I am mostly content with. I drove it a couple weeks ago when I...
