Scepter Military Water Container faucet with electric pump

If you want to use your cordless battery system you can get adapters on Amazon and eBay. You need to check that the pump can handle the voltage.

Scepter Military Water Container faucet with electric pump

The pump is rated for 10 liters/minute max. I am seeing about 3.8 liters per minute (which is 1 gallon per minute). As the battery drains the flow rate decreases. I pumped 10 gallons of water and the flow rate had slowed a bit (0.9 gallons/minute) but was acceptable. The battery voltage...

Scepter Military Water Container faucet with electric pump

For many years I have been using a marine hand pump faucet on my Scepter military water container, but I decided to save myself some calories and go electric. This idea was stolen with pride from a similar setup as described here: 12-volt water system - Scepter installation. A video was...

    Backpacking stove stand

The Jetboil tripod is meant to stabilize the gas canister on the ground. In my case the gas canister is on a flat table, but my large cooking pots are teetering on the "arms" at the top of the stove that only spread out a few inches. My stand is build to provide a broader resting surface...

    Backpacking stove stand

I love my Snow Peak GigaPower stove for a quick campside meal, but the diminutive size does not leave a lot of surface area to balance pots and pans. I've had my dinner go "overboard" before. I build a low-buck stand using 1/8" steel rod and 1/4 brass tubing. It's light, doesn't take up much...

Power at the campsite and truck battery back up

I keep an Odyssey PC680 agm battery in the truck. It packs a powerful punch in a small size. I have used it temporarily in several vehicles as the main starting battery. My first lasted 9 years and I just bought another. Make sure to evaluate the ah capacity when you compare options.

    In vehicle food storage

I pack MREs and energy bars for emergencies and rotate them to maintain max shelf life. Ramen, rice, oatmeal, and pasta are other options which have long shelf life and are easy to prepare if you have water and a heat source.

    Camp Gear

No. I am referring to the full height cargo divider that separates the seating area from the cargo area.

    Camp Gear

Not sure exactly where you are putting this, but another option might be the organizers that attach to the side of a cot. This version from Cabellas is 80" long, but could be folder over to shorten it. I have one attached to my cargo divider and find it very useful.

    phone battery life camping

The stock battery is 3,000 mAh, so I would expect the 6,000 mAh to be 2x that or maybe less. If you are not going to have any access to electricity during your trip, then you may want to look into a small solar charger.

This looks great...what negatives am I missing?

Found this article that walks through the refill procedure in more details and highlights some of the pitfalls. The rubber seal on the 1lb bottles is more prone to leakage after frequent reuse. This is also an inherently dangerous activity. Not worth the savings in my book. Propane for...

    OzTent Discount @ Overland Expo?

I think in 2014 I got around 15% discount. This was from Family Tent Camping, which was the distributor that attended OE. If you know what you want, you may contact them in advance and try to get a deal on the demo models they use at the event.

    Roof rack tiedowns

NRS (National River Supply) straps have been a standard in the rafting industry for decades. I have a variety of the 1" width straps which have a 1500 lb tensile strength and reliable cam buckle. You can get them from 1 foot to 20 feet. In addition to single straps, they have 2 piece...

Why do I want a roof top tent?

A RTT might give you enough time for your entire life to flash before your eyes before the bear kills you as opposed to just part of your life. Or maybe a few seconds to grab a gun or bear spray. Falling off the ladder and breaking your leg is probably a more valid concern than animal attacks.

Why do I want a roof top tent?

One of the few advantages is protection from animal attacks, most likely bears in your locations. If you have a conventional tent you are a camper, if you have a RTT you are on an expedition.

Portable Jump Starter for 12v source?

Odyssey PC680 is small, can easily be used to start your truck, holds a charge for months without discharging, long servive life, and has 17ah. If you already own a set of jumper cables and a small inverter, then this is all you need.

    Looking at fridges- front door?

Cold air sinks and warm air rises. When you open the lid on a "top door" refrigerator the cold air stays inside. With a front door option the cold air will spill out and be repalced by warmer ambient air that will then have to be cooled. So for efficiency the top door model is a better...

    Heavy-duty tarp that'll last forever!

Making custom made, weatherproof, and sun-resistant covers is very common in the boating world. Search some Swiss companies that make bimini tops, sail covers, boat covers, etc. You can get whatever you desire, but as with all things "marine" you will pay a premium.

    waterproofing leather boots ?

I use NikWax. That seems to be highly recommended by retailers and boot manufacturers. In the grand scheme of things it's not that expensive, and it's better than having wet feet.
