Georg and I spent a rainy Sunday putting together my Orion case. Georg did most of the difficult bits, and he includes some solid advice for assembling a transfer case if anyone interested. It was intimidating to say the least, but after watching the man work, I’d say it’s more of a mole hill...
Now that I’m 40, it’s time to slow down. And the best way to do that is to drop my transmission and transfer case for a Valley Hybrids Orion! Before I can step back on the Rubicon, my gearing needs to drop. So here is step one, removing the old to prep for the new.
I Need An Orion Transfer...
I finally did some actual research, and got to the “point” of what makes Amsoil better than everything else. Thanks to a sponsorship from my man Justin at Rusty Nail Racing gear oil will be the least of my problems. Plus I test out that locker…
Talk about men at work… Dale Coffey made this awesome dash upgrade. I was able to order one and yesterday we installed it. It’s better than I could have expected. The storage is useful considering I don’t have bucket seats for a tuffy install. And cupholders… magic. Great build quality and for...
My ARB airlocker had been sitting in a box for almost a year since I ordered it from my man Georg at Valley Hybrids. Well, I’m happy to report it’s in there. I didn’t find many videos showing the install into the axle housing, including the c-clips… have a watch, enjoy the struggle, subscribe if...
4plusproducts makes some of the dopest kit for landcruisers. Dave is contemplating retirement, so if there’s anything you want, get after it. These sliders were sold out, but my man Georg at Valley Hybrids keeps some 4plusproducts gear at his shop. Support these small shops, keep them afloat.
The High Lakes were hit hard by the Dixie Fire a while ago, but they still have some spots where you need 4wd… and it’s natural beauty is still there. Perfect place for a shake down in my FJ40 and a freshly built Bronco.
I ordered the “Tauler Jack” kit from Brennan’s Garage. It’s a kit that converts a 8000lb trailer jack to work like a hilift, but better. But if welding, and it’s ready to rock. Worth looking into…
Grab your Pepto-Bismal, your burping days are over. Got some advice from a friend to ditch the burping and get with the OEM tools coolant pressure refilling system. Also works as a scuba system.
OEM Tools Coolant System Refiller Kit, I Test It, No More Burping Coolant On Landcruisers.
Plenty of ups, and plenty of downs. That’s the way it goes. I received a beefy boy of an alternator bracket from none other than Matt at Vintage Teq Parts. What a beast! Also installed the radiator again and fiddled with the hoses… and gave her a crank. But nothings that easy…
Once the motor was installed, it was easy street from here on out. Unless you’re me. Managed to get some exhaust stuff fixed up. Holley changed the recommended location for O2 bung, so I welded that up. Have a watch, subscribe if you feel up to it.
I get started sprucing up the 84’ FJ60 motor for transplant into my 72’ FJ40. I’m keeping the oil cooler this time, figure it can only help. Also swapping as much as I can over to make the engine swap as smooth as possible. It’s a difficult transition but it can be done with a little help…
4 episodes:
Here’s the episodes involving the heater install. In all honesty, this is a great replacement for the stock heater. If your in the mood. The episodes I filmed on it should help resolve some pitfalls, because I fell in them over and over…

When I say idiots guide, I mean I (An Idiot) install the Holley Sniper fuel injection system into my FJ40. It’s a 1972, with a 1978 2F... if anyone has feedback or questions fire away. I’m already admitting I’m stupid, so if you come to that conclusion watching the episode, I already warned...
Using Coolerman's kit, I was able to install an FJ60 Alternator into a 1972 FJ40. Its a great upgrade, and Coolerman's stuff is awesome. Made it possible for even me to install it, a certified idiot. Also, made a video of it in case there are any questions. Thanks again Mark, appreciate the fact...
Alright, here’s the first episode from the FJ60 road trip. I’m already editing the next one, meaning there won’t be a huge gap between these... a quick recap: we bought an FJ60 that had been sitting for 18 years in Texas. With the help of some friends, we’re going to fly there and drive it home...
I humbly submit my “detailed” and “thorough” study of the common hose clamp debate and I’ve selected a winner. Have a watch, it can’t be any worse than covid...
Had a little help from my friends the other day. Managed to get some work done thanks to Georg, Rob, Tai, Ryan, and the handsome Jarom. In true Project Wrong Way fashion, I didn't get the front axle done. But I learned a lot, and a little about my self too. Hope you enjoy the episode, Ive been...
Tried my hand at steering wheel repair. Not as easy as it looks, but probably easier than I made it look. The old 72’ wheel was cracked to hell so anything I did was better than nothing. Also took a swing at getting the tie rods apart for a rebuild... have a watch and subscribe if you feel up to...
