I am thinking of selling my 1980 all stock 40. I know, i know...it hurts, but my family situation would be a lot easier if I did.
Right now it is in great mechanical shape. I have maintained it since I owned it. It always starts and runs great.
It does need some work in two areas. The...
thanks. I am ordering new studs and lug nuts. I did do some driving in the snow last week. I wonder if that had anything to do with it. When I checked the other wheels they were all fine with torque, so go figure.
while driving on the highway, my drivers side front wheel started shimmying. Thought my alignment was going. When I got home I discovered ALL my lugnuts were half loose! Lots of metal dust and the some of the posts were 1/3 way worn through.
First, how do you think that happened? Its almost as...
I have a question. Not being a carb guy, when you get the carb back, is it a matter of just reconnecting it or do you have to make all the adjustments to idle and such?
I have researched this on the site and am confused. I have a 1980 FJ-40 with 2F, stock everything. Can the performance be improved by adding an electronic ignition like Pertronix? I seem to have read some of Jim Chenoworth's articles that say after 1978 the ignitions are electronic?
As you see...
MSD huh? Manny what year are you running? On a 2F? any mods needed? I am always having to use my choke (even in warm weather). This unit keeps a constant charge to the plugs right?
2 pumps normal temperature, three when its cold. If I have driven it the last couple of days usually turns over. If it has sat in the cold for long, sometimes it wont start the first two times. THEN, I push the choke back in and it will turn over. I think it does get too much gas after a few...
hand pump - about 20 bucks, fits over a 5 gallon bucket. You can buy gear oil alot cheaper, fill the tranny, transfer and diffs. I think I got mine at Harbor Freight, but you can find them at Pep boys or other automotive places. will try and find a link for you.
I need to replace part of the panel right below the door. Can any body tell me what is involved getting it off? I have never done it and I know with most jobs on the FJ once you start something more complications ensue.
Is is bolted on or welded? besides the step, what else will I need to take...
Synthetic fluids?
Am I correct in assuming that petroleum based fluids are better for older vehicles? I once heard the synthetics will leak easier in these older rigs.......
or am I just hallucinating?
