    Air bypass valve (ABV) tech

Hi everyone, I thought this is worth sharing and having on here. Although for those who actually read the emission manual carefully (unlike myself) , the information was always there. So I’ve read here about people testing their ABV, and concluding that it’s junk if it doesn’t hold vacuum. I...

    EGR valve

Hi all, I’m getting close to putting my ‘77 CA spec FJ40 together and have to eventually smog the car. I’d like to understand what are the differences between EGR valves between the different years, or even within the same year. My questions are only about the EGR valve, not the cooler, pipe to...

Trade  Sunnyvale CA, full roll cage

Hi all, This may be a long shot, PO had this custom built. I had it on the car before I disassembled everything so I know it fits well. It’s stock roll cage plus the front piece, it’s done well. I’m however looking to install just the stock roll cage (without the front piece). So before I cut...

Main bearing cap to engine block, sealant or not

Hi all I just did my rear main seal and followed @Poser ‘s method, which is taking the oil pan off along with the main bearing cap (#4). My engine is a ‘77 2F, and I have it off the vehicle on an engine stand. Overall it went very smoothly. When putting the main bearing cap back on, what is...

    FD cable replacement

I’d like to replace the FD cable on my 65 with one in a better shape but couldn’t figure out how to take it apart in the engine bay. I tend to break things the first time I attempt to take them apart so trying to avoid that. It looks like this: Pretty sure it has to be taken out at the end...

    Early door glass

My window on PS would get stuck at the very top and it took me a long time to realize (with the help of phone camera) that the window regulator wheel is coming out of the channel: The windows were broken and PO had provided the glasses, I believe I installed the driver side on the passenger...

    65 Heater questions

Hi all, Do the early heaters come with a pull cable operated valves or just manual ones? Mine is removed so I’m trying to figure out how to make is stock or at least close. If anyone has pictures that would be great. I saw an earlier post about a Napa valve that’s close to Toyota, looks like...

    Help identifying clutch system

I have a 65 FJ45 with a Chevy 350 engine (from a 73 corvette). It has the stock 3spd transmission. The bellhousing is the original GM and there is a 1” adapter between the transmission and the bellhousing. I’m rebuilding the transfer case and have removed the transmission so wanted to address...

    Early Parts Catalog, 93626-64

Hi all, Does anyone have a pdf version of the 64/65 parts catalog? I believe the number is 93626-64. I’ve seen a bunch of previous posts and links/websites but none are from that year, the closest I saw was from 67. If anyone wants to sell their hard copy for a reasonable price I’d be willing...

    Chevy 350 + 3spd to 4spd conversion question

I have a 65 FJ45 that came with a Chevy V8 and a 3 speed with the original transfer case. It looks like it’s using the original GM bellhousing and a spacer. I have a 4spd+transfer case from our 77 that I’m rebuilding. On the 77 I’m considering putting a 5psd transmission, so I was thinking of...

    Brake bleeding

My grandfather had a brake shop and I wish I helped out more. I’m having issues bleeding my ‘65 with drums all around. I exchanged the master cylinder, the wheel cylinders, and shoes. I got all the air out, and adjusted the brakes and test drove the car a bit, it was fine but not great. I...

Tie rod end boot rubbing on rim

I did a knuckle + tie rod end rebuild on my 65 and noticed the rim is rubbing on the boot of the tie rod end. The rim is 16” and has 4” off back spacing. See below: I compared the clearance to my 77 and it seems that the knuckle arm sticks a bit more out on the 65. Here are the comparison...

    Ball/claw question

I’m doing the knuckle rebuild on my 65, the brass bushing came out stuck to driver side axle, I’m guessing this isn’t normal. Shouldn’t the axle move freely with the bushing fixed? I took the bushing out and of course damaged it, it was on real tight.
