The only update I have is… there isn’t an update. Absolutely swamped at work and I’m still waiting for the electrician to wire 220v into my new garage, at which point I’ll probably start the restoration of the top and sides. Once they’re done then I’ll have something to align the new doors with.
Have you removed the swing arm that slides into the sleeve you’re drilling into? By the looks of it, you have already drilled through what you need too, except the hole looks to be bigger than needed Probably no real damage done at this point provided you clean up the burrs left by the drill...
Ahhhh, I actually looked at the fuses and didn’t see anything amiss but I also know a fuse can be bad without “looking” bad. I’ll put in a new fuse and check. If that doesn’t do the trick I guess I’ll have to pull the cluster out. Thanks!
Having an issue with my gauge cluster. My oil, fuel, and temp gauges have suddenly become very intermittent in operation. At first the temp gauge would randomly stop working over a couple of days. Next startup it would work fine etc. etc. Then over the span of a few days the rest of them all...
Doors showed up in perfect condition! They look great. Curious though, my pinch folds are perfectly flat like they should be. So there might be some minor inconsistencies in production. I haven’t personally seen any SA doors but I would imagine the quality would not be better than these. Full...
I added the insurance to my doors but fingers crossed, I won’t need it. My Aqualu tailgate was badly damaged during shipping and no insurance, so I learned my lesson.
I did tell @Racer65 to hold off on shipping my doors until Mark @65swb45 can have a good look at them in person. I’m hoping he will go over them with a keen eye and give his blessing on whether these are in-fact the holy grail of Cruiser doors or not. I know there are countless 40’s running...
All has been quiet on the FJ40 front as of late. Wintertime in Idaho without a top means not a lot of driving except on the nicest of days, well that’s about to change.
I’ve been on the hunt for a good quality rust-free set of front doors for at least 2 years, with no luck. It’s the final piece...
Well, @Racer65 can hold my doors for shipping until you get eyes on them. As one of the respected gurus in our community, your vote of approval will give a lot of members the needed assurance on the quality of the product. If we have finally found a source for doors and the like, it’ll be a...
Once these show up I’ll do a write-up on my build thread covering fit and finish. Now I’ll have to be on the hunt for a few various internal door accouterments.
You can do both, repair or replace. With something as critical as the brakes I always tend to lean more towards the replace side. They're not that expensive and pretty easy to swap out.
I rebuilt my OEM front disks calipers, and replaced the rear's cylinders.
Muriatic acid is basically magic in removing rust but it’s important to remember to neutralize the acid ASAP after the rust is gone.
Definitely wear googles, thick rubber gloves, and stay upwind of muriatic acid if you’re using it.
