Michael - did you ever resolve this issue? Same thing happening with my 92. Kick down cable is adjusted to FSM specs, no stick in the cable or throttle body, and still can't get it to shift into 4th / O/D at all.
I cut and notched the front rack to get it into the middle grab handle as tightly as it could, and still high enough for my kiddos to use the handle to pull themselves in, then used from heavy black zip ties to secure. It's definitely the weakest point, but if it breaks, I always carry zip ties...
I know I answered on my other thread, but for consistency's sake as well =)
You can't really tell from the pics, but I did move the holes on the front rack in a bit to give it more of an angle in toward the front. I probably could have done it a little more though.
And here's a very crude...
Here's a very crude idea of what the bungee would look like. I'm going to drill a hole in the end of the rack and leave enough cord to adjust the tension, then secure the bungee to the rack in between every hole with a staple (blue on the picture), at the bottom of the hole. Then as I install...

One more view to show the color match. I'm pretty pleased with it. The rack is VERY sturdy. So much so that I'm thinking about rigging up a fire extinguisher can mount on the rear, but I'll have to think on that.
View from the middle seat. I attached a small 2x4 to the 1x4 to give me extra...
I'm surprised I haven't seen more fishing rod setups in here. After a few half-hearted attempts to store all my fishing rods from my ceiling and being annoyed with them bouncing around on bungee cords and rope, or notched out dowels and bungees, here's my serious attempt at a stout storage...
I built an interior fishing rod setup that's much more solid than anything else I've tried. Holds 11 rods. The rack itself has zero bounce or movement while off-roading to my favorite back country fishing spots. Having them bounce around on rope/bungees was super annoying.
The rods still have...
I know this is an old thread, but I'm wondering how those lights are holding up? I love this idea, but II'd hate a cut a hole in my bumper for lights that end up as crap shortly down the line.
Guess I just needed a break from the FSM, because I immediately found it this morning - the mystery part was the cold start injector pipe, and its "gaskets" are basically 2 brass tabs that go on either side of the injector pipe/line (one between the bolt and fitting and the other between the...
Thanks for the reassurance. Now once I get that fuel line bolt appropriately torqued so I'm not leaking fuel I can drive it long enough to see that happen. Thanks for the help!
My 1992 fj80 started idling very rough whenever in gear, to the point where I thought it was constantly going to stall when stopped at the stoplight. Figured I had a vacuum leak, and sure enough the pipe near the check valve of the air manifold was rusted and snapped in two. I pulled air pump...
I was so focused looking through the coolant section, it never occurred to me to look elsewhere in the FSM. Looks like I need to do some more exploratory reading in this to see what other tidbits I can find.
Thanks very much!

The water pump on my '92 (175k miles) finally gave out, so I'm replacing the thermostat while I'm in there. Thanks to @beno for the parts, super-fast shipping, and helpful advice on the project.
The FSM says that the 4 bolts that hold the thermostat housing together need to be 13 ft-lbs, but...
