I would return for a full refund. It's a mix of years and when you, or your mechanic, need parts that's going to be an issue. If in a few years your infatuation with it wears off and you try to sell it you'll likely loose money. Get the refund...
Thinking about it, id probably return the vehicle. It's a good looking 40, but i think you paid a premium for it, even if it had a clean title. Have you looked in the classified section on this site? You'll find honest representations at...
A bit of updated information for this thread. Not sure where I ran across the suggestion, but FJparts.com offers a number of different brake cables for this application at a reasonable price. Got the 68” setup for my H55f/splitcase w/ parking...
Yeah so the cable that was removed from my ‘71 3spd & single piece case was 64”. This would be stock length for my setup, though with the additional length i opted for the longer version (68” marketed for the BJ40 from ‘75-77.) is it also...
Cheap and effective is to do a dry then wet compression test on all cylinders. +1 for hearing valves is way better than burning them.
A crack in the dizzy cap can short out one jug, can be very hard to detect. Scrape the contacts inside the...
In my sincerest efforts to beat a dead horse....to death..lol.. Like others have said, your specific desires and long term goals are the biggest issue in any decision. My .02 is that it's a pretty serious frankenstein rig with mismatched years...
While it's true many FJ40s have parts and pieces from other vehicles, in my opinion there's a huge difference between using parts from a same year rig and using parts from one significantly older. and with large differences.
A very smart guy...
Personally the difference between a 71 and 78 tubs alone would return for a refund. Transmission changes to just a four speed is tight. Ever plan on a five speed is more complicated. 78 has brackets for the roll bar, does the 71 tub even have...
I personally wouldn’t deal with a salvage or marked title. Some people might. The vast majority of the guys on Mud would hesitate on that truck as a ‘78 with any type of title.
The lens (81241-90300) is NLA from Toyota. The pre-07/80 light assembly is avail from Toyota, 81240-90300. MSRP is $72.50 so a lens @ $9.00 is perfect for many needs. I need to order a few for my personal projects. Well done!
Centerforce clutches are pricey, but they have a solid reputation. If LUK doesn't offer you a satisfactory resolution, you might consider a Centerforce.
Mark:
Where are you going in NY? If close to me we can connect for a beer at my Vet's Club in Cooperstown, right across the street from the Baseball Hall of Fame.
I’m here through August 1st, back to Washington (state), then to NY for a week. I’ll be back in Tennessee 1st week in September. I’ll collect that beer as we talk about old iron….pre 7o’s land cruisers.
Be Good, Be Safe
Cheers🍺
I run a scout box and a gm pump. In the past I ran sag steering with the box out front. I've always used a jeep cj7 h/p line. The cj7 line has a long relatively straight section of metal line that ran along the frame to the steering box...
