I am very happy with the zerostart circulating heater. If you are going to get a plug-in heater, you might as well.

If it is 15-20 min you probably have a airleak in your fuel lines . Shouldn’t take more then 30 seconds on a cold start for the idle to smooth out and the smoke to disappear

I would start with the glow plugs system.
Make sure that you have power to the busbar when the key is turned on, and as the system powers down.
If yes to the busbar, then test the glow plugs. If one is bad change them all.
