I engaged the system on my '05 4R with stock Michelin Defender tires on a dirt road descent. It was making all kinds of crazy noises and not doing a great job of controlling speed either. I'll just put it in 4LO and put the transmission in 1st gear to control downhill speeds.

It used to be if you took it the county station downtown for your free retest and you failed again after showing that you had spent some money to try to fix it, they would give you 1 year to get it fixed completely. I wasn't sure if you knew about this or if it's even still a rule.
