It used to be if you took it the county station downtown for your free retest and you failed again after showing that you had spent some money to try to fix it, they would give you 1 year to get it fixed completely. I wasn't sure if you knew about this or if it's even still a rule.
A pack of smokes costs almost as much as a good bottle of whiskey these days. My parents smoked like chimneys. I'm glad I never picked up the habit or I'd be broke. My 70 year old dad on SS is now rolling his own with pouches of tobacco and pre-made cig tubes. in the 90's they smoked Bucks...
I got the CB for trail coms with my local club close to 20 years ago. It was fine for small groups close together. But then when I started going to larger gatherings, the HAM advantage became clear. But it's a big hurdle for folks new to the sport. I never went all in with a mobile base...
If I'm used to getting 18-19 in my old vehicle and the new one that is a similar size and weight is getting 23-25, that's a 25% improvement. That's pretty good, especially if there is an increase in power/torque too. I went from an '87 FJ60 to a '99 UZJ100 and got a significant bump in power...
Moving to the East Mountains and working on base has made AmToy very inconvenient. I only go to Sandia Toyota for small parts I need right away that are likely in stock. For anything costly, I just order from the internet now.
Some other stats to ponder:
I own a 2002, 2005 and 2011 4Runner. So one of each of Gen 3, 4 and 5.
2002 - 3.4 V6 5VZ-FE, SR5, curb weight about 4,000 lbs
2005 - 4.0 V6 1GR-FE (single VVTi, SR5, curb weight about 4,200 lbs
2011 - 4.0 V6 1GR-FE (dual VVTi), Trails Edition, curb weight about...
Full disclosure, I've never owned an 80-series and have no experience with the pair system. I just read about it and tried to understand what it's purpose is. Both of my vehicles were carbureted that had issues so there were a lot more areas of potential failure and adjustment.
I asked if I could be on a cancellation call-back list. They said they don't do that and I would have to call back regularly to see if a there was an earlier appointment available.
Sorry to be a bummer but that's a result of deleting a fresh air injection system. I had both a '76 Datsun and an '87 FJ60 that had issues when the air injection system wasn't working correctly and not putting enough air into the exhaust to help deal with HC and CO.
