I used scotch locks. The scotch locks initially work by piercing the wire jacket. This leads to corrosion and eventually the wire will break in two. I soldered in Dean connectors instead and wrapped them in shrink wrap.
And for future searchers... The OP picture of wiring - do *NOT* use scotch locks for 'tapping' into wires and even more ***NOT*** for external wiring in weather/mud etc. They work until they don't and become a corrosion nightmare to the wires...
Once the bolt is off, the balancer should just slide right off the crank. The bolt is torqued to over 300 ft./lbs. It's going to be tough to remove. Place a long 3/4" breaker bar and socket on it with a ratchet strap holding it tight against...
Yes, you have to remove the harmonic balancer retaining bolt. The puller is designed to fit into the chamfer in the threaded hole; you're not going to damage anything.
If it still won't budge, you'll have two choices:
1) » use an impact wrench...

I taught myself the basics of welding on my 80. I don't have a roof rack from the factory but, I was "blessed" with the rusted out second row seat belt mounts. A friend of me had a parts 3rd gen 4Runner. He gave me a wrecked door from it, and I...
I've always thought I wanted bigger tires for that killer offroad look. Ideally 35's is the max I should install for the type of driving I do. However, this picture proves that a clean Cruiser with 33's and a lift still looks absolutely badazz.
Best financial decision you will ever make as long as you can work on it when it needs maintenance. I am only running 33's and the damn thing will go just about anywhere. 10mpg isn't the problem, it's the tiny fuel tank Toyota put in it. Been...
