We awoke the next morning with an ambitious goal of making it to Rock Springs by early afternoon to meet Craig off of I-80. It was going to be close to 200 miles just to Rock Springs, plus another ~50 on the dirt to Steamboat Mountain for camping...
Things got really pretty really fast as we got off of pavement. This gradually became one of the roughest trails I've ever been on. Despite destroying two camp showers, spilling gasoline on gear, snapping a bolt on my trailer rack, breaking the...
My family used to have a little place in the town of Ennis, Montana. We drove up there from Colorado quite a few times over the years, hastily traversing Wyoming on the way. For years I gazed at those mountain ranges across Wyoming and wanted to...
Today I was taking care of little things, rerouting chassis wires, routing the speedometer cable (had to get the new stock cable modified to work with my auto meter speedo), re-installing the instrument cluster and installed the plug wires and...
Flip kits for both axles
Dave added the partial pipe for get the center of the rim on to make it easer to line up the studs at no charge. I am 67 now and 217 lbs at 6-3 but my strength is different then when I was 210 at 34. I got the 5...
And finally, the engine and new gearbox in the chassis on its own weight!
Was expecting the front springs to compress a bit more, but I'm sure they will settle some more as we add more and more stuff.
And had to clearance the tunnel a bit...
Ok here it is I inadvertently said USA not North America as was pointed out to me. Glad to make that correction.
But here it is this week's episode featuring @orangefj45 and Terrain Tamer North America.
The two rust repairs are now the two straightest parts of my rocker panel!😛
I color sanded and feathered the two blocks of paint, but left the transition at the back of the door jamb obvious on purpose. Good enough for a trail rig.
Bolt on patina.😉
Added another to the herd. This was a customers truck, we did many projects for him including a fresh hub to hub disc brake axle w/powder-coated parts, 3FE (a local shop installed) in front of an new H55F/split-case (with park-brake) we built...
I built this shade structure with my buddy to pull the roof off the RV and do the solar install:
Busted his 40 out of storage:
All the roof sheets we brought from California (850 pounds worth):
And the 300 pounds of Aluminum extrusions I...
Big Bend was amazing! We had the whole park to ourselves. There are many trails and scenic vistas. It seems endless!
Our campground was full of these horses:
We put so many miles on the Cruiser that I had to do an oil change. Good thing I...
Next we loaded up and headed to Alamogordo.
Went to see the big nut:
After that we blasted up the hill and spent a bit of time in Cloudcroft and had a few pints up there.
After that we blasted off to another cool campground at Bottomless...
We took a day trip to see the cliff dwellings:
Hiked to the hot springs there:
Loaded up and off we went back to camp.
There was this giant owl right next to the RV. You can see it in the picture barely. It was hooting all night!
Next we went to City of Rocks in New Mexico which was awesome:
Pulled the Cruiser out and went to the hot springs. Back in time for the sunset:
You can see the Volvo in the background:
The rig is equipped with an early hill detection system, not unlike the previous powertrain in my cruiser!
Feels like your hauling ass at the helm though!
We stopped at the Catwalk Recreation Area:
Grabbed a good dinner and a few pints...
From our campground there we piled in the cruiser and made our way to Tombstone:
It was pretty gimmicky but still fun. Had a few pints at Big Nose Kates:
Momma gave me the royal treatment all the way across country. It's nice having the...
