    Coolant Heat Riser Question

I am getting ready to install the MAF coolant heat riser kit and was wondering if anyone had pictures of how, where, they installed the line from the thermostat side? I would assume you would want to go in below the thermostat somewhere so warm water would start flow under the carb before the...

    fj60 suspension upgrade questions

I run 33x9.5 BFG MTs with no lift on my 84 and no rubbing problems. I think a shackle lift would be a good way to gain a little height without dropping the big bucks. Besides, if you decide to go higher latter on you may be able to still use your longer shackles.

    bearing preload

Sometimes when you put new seals in they will produce enough drag that you can't get the preload set using the book method. This is the result of having essentially two wheel seals in each hub. A "general" rule that seems to work is to tighten the adjusting nut in until the wheel bearings bind...

    desmogging an 84 2f

Ok, since we are talking about headers and desmogged rigs my 84' is completely desmogged and has a very old set of very warped MAF 6 to 1 headers. I can't afford the MAF tuned ones so I was considering buying the SOR 2 piece headers. I know alot of guys have them but there does'nt seem to be any...

smog or not to smog that is the question

I have an 84' that is de-smogged. I like it this way but I have to say that from a value point, if you have two equally equiped trucks, the one with all the smog equipment intact is worth more, IMHO. I've looked into restoring my smog equipment and it's a nightmare if everything is gone. I'd fix...

    Non-USA Carb Problems????

Thanks for the ideas. I will look down the carb and see if the fuel stream seems to come out when the butterfly opens. This is a brand new, right out of the box, carb so if it is messed up it came from the factory that way. Good times.

    Por-15

I have had mixed results as well. I think the most important thing is to make sure you use a water based degreaser on whatever you are going to paint, and don't use a surficant like Simple Green, it has to all wash off with hot water. Everytime I have used any kind of solvent and didn't wash it...

    4runner calliper conversion worthiness?

OK, I thought we were kind of talking about the whole rig, my bad. Still I would like to know if anyone uses a line lock? Good times.

    4runner calliper conversion worthiness?

Just a question for those who have done this conversion. Did you install a line lock for a parking brake or did you fab a parking brake system?

    Tire Siping

Siping has been used in the heavy truck industry for years and it is very effective at increasing tire life if it is done right. One problem that can and does occur is rock drills. This is where a small rock will stick in the siping and drill its way into the tread. If you run on dirt roads...

    Poor idle at startup

I don't think vacum is your problem, I have the same small "wiggle" in my vacum readings. I wonder if your EGR valve is sticking open? Good times.

I think that threaded hole is more for the caliper bolt plate than to hold the brake fitting on. I've see alot of rigs with those plates gone, I think those plates are intended to help keep the calipers from coming lose, or falling out if they do come lose. I may wrong about that though. Good...

    Compression #s Analysis, Please

It's funny you should post this today, I just finished doing a compression test on my truck and all of mine were between 132 and 140. I am also preety close to sea level, sounds like those numbers are OK. Good times.

Rookie Break Questions/Rebuilding Front End/Damn Franchise Automotive Shops

On my rig the fitting on the back of the dust plate is riveted in place so you can't remove it. In my case the flex lines were cracked so I just cut them which allowed me to put the closed in of a wrench over the fittings to remove them. The fittings on mine were also badly corroded. The short...
