Replacement bumpers - TJM closed US warehouse

I hit a deer the other day and need to replace my stock bumper. I was looking at other posts about TJM’s bumper and their website said none available, so I asked if they would have and in stock soon. Unfortunately, for those of us in the US, the reply was: Mick (TJM 4X4) 9 Dec 2024...

Driver side front window - patch for plastic piece connecting glass to regulator

Some part of my 1999 driver door window was broken because it started to roll down at a serious angle. I bought a new window regulator thinking that was the problem. In taking the door apart to install the new regulator, I saw that the regulator was fine, but the plastic piece that is glued to...

    Click of doom

If you want to see what happened when (my) click click turned to a horrible grinding sound, Short version (described by others, above) was the snap ring came off allowing the axle to slip inwards and grind on the flange. In the below collage, the old flange is on the right and the new flange...

One-man axle puller to fit snap ring in groove by axle flange

If you can’t fit your snap ring (90520-31007) in the groove by the axle flange (43421-60060), the following one-man method worked for me. scrap piece of angle iron two 14mm sockets M8-1.25x65mm bolt (Home Depot) spacers, as needed Drill a hole in the center of the angle iron to fit the bolt...

Remove lower control arm on-frame No. 2 Bushing: dimensions and parts to do it are attached

This method has been covered elsewhere on the forum with the exception of dimensions needed to find tools/parts available in your own location. Below is what I was able to use via Pep Boys and Home Depot, but these are very generic parts, so should be readily available in most places. 1. 1/2”...

With control arm removed, remove bushings with grinder, vice, and press

Oh yes, and I chuckled when he said he didn't understand why the service manual said to "use a chisel and hammer to pry up the flange." That's because I'm fairly certain that when he made that video, he had never replaced Land Cruiser bushings. The 4Runner bushing (top picture) is not pressed...

Dimensions of 1999 factory upper control arm ball socket plus SB-3841 replacement attached

I went ahead and bought the SB-3841 ball joint and measured it. It will fit in the upper control arm. See pics below. If you are replacing the bushings 48632-60010, for either control arm 48630-60010 left, 48610-60030 right, consider the ball joint as well. I got it from Napa for $38.49 (Jan...

With control arm removed, remove bushings with grinder, vice, and press

I was not having any luck removing the upper control arm bushings per the repair manual so I took my grinder with a cut off disc, cut off the large flange, pressed the remaining metal tube back through the bushing, used my vice to squeeze the bushing together so that it wouldn’t scrape the...

Dimensions of 1999 factory upper control arm ball socket plus SB-3841 replacement attached

I'm replacing front suspension parts and found multiple threads on replacing the ball joint in the lower control arm, but conflicting info on the upper control arm ball joint. Most threads said replacing the UCA ball joint was only possible by replacing the entire UCA. Two threads mentioned...

Taking pictures of parts in Pano (panorama) mode for measurement purposes

Side note to a separate thread I'm doing on replacing upper control arm ball joints - to take a good picture of a part in order to show dimensions, use the Pano (Panorama) mode on an iPhone or Android. You move the camera in a straight line, over the object, from one end to the other, and it...

Procedure for replacing 100 series(98 and up) starter contacts

This thread saved my a bundle of time and headache. I also took my hood off, which was a tip from a prior poster - huge time saver and gave me plenty of room to work. I never had to put a foot inside the engine bay to get the job done, although I'm 6'6" and have a longer reach than most. My...

    Disable the center diff

The dealer put in sat radio when we bought it, but that's it. I will pull the switch wire to deactivate it and see if that stops the problem, but want to see if anyone else has run into this issue before I start pulling wires.

    Disable the center diff

My wife's 2005 will periodically engage the center diff all by itself. The button on the dash will not be engaged, but some electrical gremlin is engaging it. Anyone else have this issue? Any suggestions as to how to disable the ability for the center diff to engage? Unplugging the switch...

Put battery in b'ward, will start but then dies

Problem Solved - Thanks for the help I finally rechecked every fuse in the vehicle, and the 10 amp IGN fuse under the dash was blown, which I did not catch the first time around. I replaced it, and we are up and running. Thanks for the suggestions.
