I have an Ironman 4” lift. I think the coil / shock combo rides nice, so no complaints on the road.
For off road use, I think the unsprung coil length is a bit short. I’m managed to unseat both the front and rear when rock crawling. I even ejected a rear coil on the Rubicon once.
I’ve since...
@Bellfab - you mentioned in comment #50 that the new design will use the grab handle mount. I assume this will be compatible with your attic rack?
I have the Delta attic rack brackets which are pretty similar to your design. Just deciding whether I want to wait for v2.
I feel your pain. I have to drive my 97 around every couple days with the carpet peeled up and the heater blasting just so it doesn't start to stink.
It's probably a good time for me to go outside and check some drains while the rain is on pause.
Yup. I looked at putting a 3-link in the front, but "more might not be better" was definitely a consideration.
So far this setup seems more balanced, with the front performing as well as the rear. But I do need to spend some time on the coils and bumpstops to make sure everything is playing...
I agree 100%. But my point being - I don't think I was ever able to have it flex enough for the coil to unseat with the stock radius arms.
The Ironman coils are relatively short and stiff, so I'd like to replace them with a 4" lift coil with greater free length.
I wonder this also, and I just installed them on my truck.
They do seem to accomodate the full range of travel I have in the front. I have Ironman 4x4 45683LFE1 shocks (~12" travel), and they are able to bottom out the shock on one side while the opposite wheel (37s) is fully stuffed...
After my last Rubicon trip my exhaust was pretty much sitting on the rear crossmember. The under the frame exhaust is a rock magnet.
I now keep a couple of these in the truck.
I've had a CSF in my 80 for several years and I agree - it sucks.
I ran Dusy Ershim about 2 weeks ago. You have to climb nearly 4000ft over 15 miles to get up to Shaver Lake. The outside temp was around 70F, and I made it about halfway before I had to crank the heater up. Luckily there were...
